Hello and welcome to the Technique Tuesday Blog Hop where we are sharing ‘Vintage’ style projects. I have interpreted this as shabby chic, a style of cardmaking I really struggle with….. I have chosen to use the Trusty Toolbox stamp set to make my rustic tools card.
Copper Clay card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” – scored at 4⅛” Basic Beige card – 5½” by 3¾” x 2 – one for the inside Basic Beige card – 5⅜” by 3⅝” Scrap Basic Beige card
I began by stamping the outline of 3 paintbrushes in Early Espresso ink onto the smaller panel of Basic Beige card. Colour was added to the handle of each brush and the tip of the bristles using, firstly Wild Wheat ink, then Pecan Pie ink and finally Copper Clay ink. I swiped the matching colour below the bristles using the edge of each ink pad.
www.crafty-rootes.com – The Trusty Tools stamp set used to make a vintage paintbrush card for a vintage themed card Technique Tuesday Blog Hop
Using Blending Brushes I inked, with all three colours, around the edges of the panel. I the tore along the bottom and inked the ragged edge to match. I randomly stamped the dotty image, from the Country Birdhouse stamp set, in all three colours. I used a Bone Folder in the upper left corner to breakdown the fibres and separate the layers of the cardstock. I inked the corner to match. The whole panel was the adhered to one of the larger Basic Beige panels which had the bottom edge torn.

A length of Linen Thread was wrapped, three times around the panel and secured on the back with Sellotape.
www.crafty-rootes.com – The Trusty Tools stamp set used to make a vintage paintbrush card for a vintage themed card Technique Tuesday Blog Hop
I used the dotty image to stamp along the bottom of the Copper Clay card front, taking the dots a little way up the sides. The stamped and inked panel was then mounted on the Copper Clay card front on Dimensionals.
www.crafty-rootes.com – The Trusty Tools stamp set used to make a vintage paintbrush card for a vintage themed card Technique Tuesday Blog Hop
The sentiment, from the Hearts & Hugs stamp set was stamped in Early Espresso ink onto scrap Basic Beige card. I trimmed it down into a small tag shape and added it under the Linen Thread. A double Linen Thread bow was added with a Mini Glue Dot.

Today, I am sharing the cards I designed for my February Trusty Tools classes. Each of the ladies coming to classes were given a 6” by 6” pack of the Trusty Toolbox dsp to use when making the projects. I love giving dsp samples to my class attendees, especially if we use some of the paper in classes. Many of the ladies only craft when they come to class so I like to give them new techniques and things to try.
Thick Basic White card base – 10½” by 4” – scored at 5¾”, 6¾”, 8¾” & 9¾” Thick Basic White – 5¾” by 2⅝” – scored at 4” & 5” Copper Clay – 4” by 2½” Trusty Toolbox dsp – 3¾” by 3½” Trusty Toolbox dsp – 3¾” by 1¾” Basic White – 3¼” by ¾” Scarp Basic White – 4⅛” by 2¾”
We each choose the dsp patterns we wanted to use and cut them down to size. They were glued to the larger panel of Thick Basic White card. We folded on the score lines and added Tear & Tape to the 1” tab, folding it over to form the bottom of the card.

Hello and welcome to the Crafty Challenge Blog Hop where we are sharing projects based on a colour challenge. The colours we were given screamed ‘MASCULINE’ to me so I used the new Trusty Tools stamp set which will be available in my online shop from the 4th of January 2024.
Shaded Spruce card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” – scored at 4⅛” Night of Navy card – 5⅜” by 3⅝” Basic White card – 5¼” by 3½” Basic White card – 3” by 3” Night of Navy card – 3” by 3” Basic White card – 5½” by 3¾” – for the inside
I began by stamping the hammer, wrench and paint brush images from the Trusty Tools stamp set using Memento Tuxedo Back ink.
www.crafty-rootes.com – The Trusty Tools stamp set used to make a masculine birthday card for the Crafty Challenge colour challenge Blog Hop
Using Crushed Curry, Shaded Spruce and Night of Navy ink, I stamped the infill handles of the hammer and the paintbrush.
www.crafty-rootes.com – The Trusty Tools stamp set used to make a masculine birthday card for the Crafty Challenge colour challenge Blog Hop
Shaded Spruce and Night of Navy Blends Pens were used to add ‘paint’ to the paint brushes. The decorated panel was then glued to the Night of navy layer and then to the Shaded Spruce card base.
www.crafty-rootes.com – The Trusty Tools stamp set used to make a masculine birthday card for the Crafty Challenge colour challenge Blog Hop
The sentiment, from the Throughout the Year stamp set, was stamped in Night of Navy ink onto the square of Basic White card. I then punched the sentiment out using the Heartfelt Hexagon Punch. I stamped the ‘nuts and bolts’ image in Crushed Curry ink above and below the sentiment.
www.crafty-rootes.com – The Trusty Tools stamp set used to make a masculine birthday card for the Crafty Challenge colour challenge Blog Hop
I punched another hexagon from the Shaded Spruce square, cut it in half from side to side and added it to the back of the sentiment so that a little of the Shaded Spruce showed at the top and bottom.
www.crafty-rootes.com – The Trusty Tools stamp set used to make a masculine birthday card for the Crafty Challenge colour challenge Blog Hop
The sentiment was added to the card front on Dimensionals and a trio of 2023 – 2025 In Color Dots completed the card.
Please hop along to see what my fellow crafters have done with this colour combo.
