A card for the Crafty Collaborations Vacation Blog Hop in spired by the North-East coast of Scotland

Crafty Collaboration Vacation Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to the Vacation Blog Hop where we are thinking about holidays. I know many people can’t wait to start travelling again and are dreaming about where they will go first. I am going to Scotland to see my family in August, they live on the North-East coast and my card reflects the sea and coast. This is a picture of the place where my Mum and Dad are from with the ruined 14th century red sandstone castle on the cliff by the beach……. just beautiful.

Colours used in this project:

To recreate the vacation card, you will need:

Balmy Blue card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛” – rounded upper right corner
Pacific Point card – 5⅝” by 3⅞” – rounded upper right corner
Basic White card – 5½” by 3¾” – rounded upper right corner – one for the inside

I began by stamping the lighthouse, from the Sailing Home stamp set in Cinnamon Cider ink onto one of the Basic White panels. I stamped the image again on a Post It Note, cut it out to use as a mask. The mask was placed over the stamped image.

The ‘cliff and beach’ image from the Arctic Bears stamp set was then stamped in Basic Gray ink. The mask was left in place and the sailing boat was added in Basic Gray ink.

I used Sponge Daubers to add Granny Apple Green ink to the cliff tops, Cinnamon Cider to the cliff face and base of the lighthouse and So Saffron to the beach area. The boat was coloured using the Poppy Parade, Crumb Cake, Pacific Point and So Saffron Blends Markers.

A masculine seaside themed card featuring a lighthouse and a blended background.

Masculine Lighthouse themed card

Today I am sharing a masculine lighthouse themed birthday card made for my son’s birthday.

He has recently bought a house in a small fishing village on the northeast coast of Scotland, where incidentally a branch of my Mothers and a branch of my Fathers families lived from the at least the 1690’s. In fact, the house he has bought was owned by my 3 great aunts the last of whom died there in the mid 1990’s. Yes, family history is one of my passions……. My son loves the sea and as the house is about 50 feet from the harbour, he is a s happy as the proverbial pig. So….. his card had to be seaside themed. I got the idea for this card from a fellow demonstrator Priscilla – I adapted her design and made it my own.

Colours used in this project are:

To recreate the masculine Lighthouse card, you will need:

Balmy Bay card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛”
Misty Moonlight – 5⅝” by 3⅞”
Basic White – 5½” by 3¾” x 2 – one for the inside
Pacific Point – 5½” by 3¾”
So Saffron – 5½” by 3¾”
Balmy Blue – 5½” by 3¾”
Misty Moonlight – 5½” by 3¾”
Misty Moonlight – 3¾” by 2⅝”
Basic White – 3¾” by 2⅝”

I took the four panels of card stock measuring 5½” by 3¾” and cut them into thin strips, wider at one end than the other. Taking the strips, I added them to one of the larger Basic White panels using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive leaving a small strip of white visible between the strips. I trimmed off any excess when the whole panel was covered.

The striped panel was then added to the Misty Moonlight layer with the same liquid glue and then to the Balmy Blue card base.

Using the lovely new Blending Brushes, I added Balmy Blue ink to the top and bottom of the small Basic White panel. I added So Saffron ink to the middle of the panel.  I stamped the ‘sea’ image in Balmy Blue ink at the bottom of the panel and birds in Basic Gray at the top of the panel. Using the Stitched So Sweetly Dies and my Mini Cut & Emboss Machine I cut a scalloped rectangle from the inked panel. This was glued to the small panel of Misty Moonlight and added to the card front on Dimensionals.

I used the Stamparatus to stamp the image of the lighthouse onto scrap Basic White card. I wanted the image to be quite dark and the Stamparatus gave me the ability to stamp multiple times to get the depth of colour I wanted.

I cut the lighthouse out using the Smooth Sailing Dies. I added light to the windows using So Saffron Blends Marker and used a Blender Pen to soften the colour of the lighthouse.

A lighthouse themed masculine card made using the High Tide stamp set by Stampin' Up!

Lighthouse at High Tide

Here is a lovely, masculine looking card featuring a lighthouse and made using the High Tide stamp set.

To recreate the Lighthouse card, you will need:

Sahara Sand card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛” – Rounded upper right corner
So Saffron – 4⅜” by ½”
Whisper White – 5” by 3¼” – Rounded upper right corner
Flowers For Every Season dsp- 4⅛” by 2½”
Whisper White – 5⅜” by 3⅝” – Rounded upper right corner

I began by adhering the dsp to the Sahara Sand card base using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

The ‘ground’ image was stamped onto the smaller panel of Whisper White card with Sahara Sand ink. I added a little ‘water’ in Balmy Blue ink.

Using the Stamparatus I lined up the ‘outer’ lighthouse image and stamped it in Night of Navy ink. The ‘inner’ lighthouse image was then stamped overtop in Pacific Point ink using the Stamparatus. The Stamparatus is fantastic for lining up these tricky images.

I punched a 1” circle using a punch and placed it over the stamped sun to act as a mask. Using one of the fabulous new Blending Brushes – coming in the new January – June 2021 catalogue – I applied Balmy Blue ink to the background. The mask was then removed and the seagulls from the Sailing Home stamp set were stamped in Basic Gray ink. I also stamped some seagulls at the top of the card front.

The whole stamped panel was then embossed using my Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine and the Tasteful Textiles Embossing Folder. Love the effect this gives. I added the strip of So Saffron card to the side of the embossed panel and added the whole piece to the card front on Dimensionals.

Lighthouse on a stormy sea featuring products by Stampin' Up! products

Sailing Home in stormy seas

I have been on a mission recently trying to use more Designer Series Paper. Like many of my friends I buy the dsp, love it, stroke it but struggle to use it………. So here is a card I came up with using dsp from the See A Silhouette pack.

To recreate the stormy sea card you will need;

Night of Navy card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛” – rounded upper right corner
Whisper White 5⅝” by 3⅞” – rounded upper right corner
See A Silhouette dsp 5½” by 3¾” – rounded upper right corner
Whisper White 5½” by 3¾” – rounded upper right corner for the inside
Scrap Whisper White

The lighthouse from the Sailing Home stamp set was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto scrap Whisper White cardstock. The lighthouse image was then die cut using the Smooth Sailing dies.

A Lighthouse at High Tide

Today I am sharing the birthday card made for my lovely son. He loves the sea so the Lighthouse from the High Tide stamp set was perfect for his card.

Making the High Tide card

A lighthouse at High Tide for a lovely seaside themed masculine birthday card

www.crafty-rootes.com – A masculine birthday card featuring the High Tide stamp set

I began by taking a piece of Whisper White cardstock measuring 4⅛ by 2” and stamping the ‘ground’ image in 1st and 2nd generation Sahara Sand ink. I then placed the piece of cardstock in my Stamparatus as I find the lighthouse images much easier to line up using this stamping tool. The lighthouse was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and Real Red ink.
