A Good Man and Mountain Air stamp sets used to make a lovely masculine birthday card

Good Man

Today I am sharing a card made for my son in law Dom’s birthday. He and my daughter are lucky enough to live on the edge of the Peak District in the UK and they love to get out to walk or climb as often as possible. I have used the stamp set called A Good Man and teamed it up with my favourite Mountain Air stamp set.

To recreate the Good Man card, you will need:

Thick Whisper White card base –- 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛” – rounded upper left corner
Misty Moonlight – 5½” by 3¾” – rounded upper left corner
Whisper White – 5⅜” by 3⅝” – rounded upper left corner x 2
Whisper White ¼” strip

I started by stamping the man in the deckchair using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I stamped it again onto a large Post It note and cut it out using scissors. I wanted the man in the deckchair to be in the foreground of the picture and used the cut out as a mask.

With the mask in position I stamped the mountains in Misty Moonlight ink, the detailed image in full strength ink and the background reverse image in 2nd generation.

I stamped the row of trees in Garden Green ink and the water in Balmy Blue ink. The ‘ground’ from the Snow Front’ stamp set was stamped in 1st and 2nd generation Sahara Sand ink.

I peeled the mask away and coloured in the image using the following Blends Markers – Poppy Parade, So Saffron. Just Jade, Crumb Cake and Ivory.

The stamped panel was glued to the Misty Moonlight panel using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive. The whole panel was added on Dimensionals to the Thick Whisper White card base.

The sentiment from the Itty Bitty Birthday stamp set was stamped onto a ¼” strip of Whisper White in Misty Moonlight ink and cut it down using Scissors. It was added with liquid glue to the card front.

I hope Dom likes the card.

A lovely sunny card made using the Beach Happy stamp set for the Freshly Made Sketches #373 challenge

Beach Happy for the Freshly Made Sketches #373 challenge

When the weather is so cold and snowy I really, really crave some sunny beachy weather, so today I made a card for the Freshly Made Sketches using the new Beach Happy stamp set.

Making the card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beach Happy stamp set used for the Freshly Made Sketches #373 Challenge

I started with a panel of Watercolor Paper 3½” by 2⅜”. I placed the watercolor paper in the Stamparatus; I find I often have to re-stamp the image on Watecolor Paper to get a crisp image. After a bit of trial and error I found it easier to stamp the striped cloth of the deckchair first in Blueberry Bushel ink. I then stamped the frame of the deckchair and the parasol with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

I stamped the infill of the parasol with So Saffron ink and added the leaves in 1st and 2nd generation Mossy Meadow ink. I added the ‘ground’ in Crumb Cake and So Saffron ink with my Aquapainter. I added the stamped layer to a panel of So Saffron 3⅝” by 2½” with liquid adhesive.

I took a Blueberry Bushel card base and added a strip of Mossy Meadow and a strip of So Saffron, both ⅜” wide, at an angle across the card front using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive. I added a ¼” strip of Whisper White below the other two strips and added the stamped piece over the top on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I stamped the sentiment from the By The Bay stamp set in Mossy Meadow ink to complete the card. I added the palm tree to a layer of Whisper White cardstock 5⅜” by 3⅝” and added it to the inside of the card and the same image on the Whisper White envelope.

I hope this card brought you a little touch of sunshine on this cold day.

High Tide meets Colorful Seasons by Stampin' Up!

High Tide meets Colorful Seasons

Today I am sharing a card I made recently for one of the lovely ladies in my book club that had a special birthday earlier this month and it had to be large enough to for us all to sign.

I knew that Sue had spent her actual birthday with her family and friends on the beach at Southwold so I chose to make the card using the High Tide stamp set and the sweet deckchair from the Colorful Seasons stamp set.

Ingredients to make the High Tide card

Blueberry Bushel cardstock – 10” by 5½” scored at 4¼” and 8½” on the long side
Blueberry Bushel cardstock -7” by 3½” scored at 3½” on the long side
Whisper White cardstock – 5¼” by 4” x 3 – 2 for the inside and one for the back panel
Whisper White cardstock – 5⅜” by 4⅛” for the outside
Whisper White cardstock – 5⅜” by 1⅜” for the outside
Whisper White cardstock – 3¼” by 3¼” x 3 for the mini card
Pineapple punch cardstock – 5⅜” by 4⅛” for the back panel
Pineapple punch cardstock – 3⅜” by 3⅜” for the mini card
2018 – 2020 In-Color dsp stack

I began by taking the 3 – 3¼” by 3¼” panels of Whisper White. I stamped the ‘sand’ along the bottom of each panel in 2nd and 3rd generation Pineapple Punch ink. I added the deckchair frame in Basic Gray ink and seat in Blueberry Bushel ink.

On the front panel I masked off an area for the sun using a punched Post It Note circle. Taking a wedge of sponge I added Balmy Blue to create the sky using a very light touch, slowly building up the colour. When I was happy with the colour I removed the Post It mask and added Pineapple Punch ink using a Sponge Dauber to create the sun. The marsh grass was added using 2nd generation Mossy Meadow ink.

I sponged Balmy Blue ink onto the other 2 Whisper White panels  but left them otherwise plain to give room for signatures. I rounded one corner on each of the stamped panels and added each of them to a 3⅜” by 3⅜” panel of Pineapple Punch cardstock with identical rounded corners using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

I glued the front panel and the left hand inside panel to the Blueberry Bushel mini card using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive. I set the inside right had panel to one side to add later.

Next, I added the 2 pieces of dsp to the larger Whisper White panels and adhered them to the front of the larger base card.  About half way down the smaller right had panel I stuck a small strip of   Tear & Tape and adhered a length of Blueberry Bushel ⅛” ribbon. The mini card was then placed on top of the  narrow panel using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

Taking the remaining large Whisper White panels I stamped and sponged on the beach scenes and glued 2 panels inside the card base and the last panel was added to the 5⅜” by 4⅛” piece of Pineapple punch cardstock. This entire panel was then adhered to the back of the card covering the strip of ribbon.

Some Tear & Tape was then stuck on the right hand inside panel of the mini card and the last panel added over top. The card was then tied closed.

I am really happy with this card and hope the ladies like it.
