Lovely butterfly cards made using the Botanical Butterfly Sale-a-Bration designer series paper and the Butterfly Duet Punch

Butterfly January Classes

Today I am sharing the trio of cards made by the ladies who came to the Butterfly January classes this week. The class was designed around the Butterfly Gala Stamp set and co-ordinating Butterfly Duet Punch and was inspired by a card I made for the Inspire Create #032 challenge on the 4th December 2018. I also wanted to give each lady a 6” by 6” sample pack of the gorgeous Botanical Butterfly dsp to use in class and to take the remainder home to add to their stash.

Emboss Resist Technique

A pretty birthday card made using the Butterfly Gala stamp set and embossed resist technique

www.crafty-rootes.com – Butterfly Gala stamp set and embossed resist for a pretty birthday card

The first card we made was the card I designed for the Inspire, Create Challenge involving embossing and adding ink using sponge brayers, such a fun technique. As I have already blogged about this card please follow this link for all the details –

A Little Note card

We started with a Lemon Lime Twist card base, each lady then chose a piece of dsp from their sample pack, cutting it to 5⅝” by 3⅞”. The upper right corner of both the card base and the dsp were rounded using the Detailed trio Punch and the dsp added to the card front using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

We stamped a sentiment in Lemon Lime twist ink onto a panel of Whisper White measuring 4⅛” by 2¾”, rounded the upper right corner before adding the panel to a layer of Highland Heather 4⅜” by 3”. This panel was then added to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Lastly the ladies selected a large and a small butterfly from the dsp and punched them out using the Butterfly Bouquet Punch. The butterflies were added using Mini Glue Dots and the card was finished with a scattering of Basic Rhinestones.

Butterfly Birthday card

We started the final card by choosing a piece of dsp and laying it, offset onto the front of a Thick Whisper White card base. I then lifted the corner and applied Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive underneath before trimming away the excess dsp and adhering the rest of the panel. Some of the ladies found it easier to draw around the dsp making it easier to trim off the excess.

We stamped a sentiment in Highland Heather ink. Next we punched out 1 large and 3 small butterflies adding them to the card front using Mini Glue Dots and finishing with a scattering of Basic Rhinestones.

I hope you like these cards.

The Beauty Abounds stamp set by Stampin' Up! used to make monochromatic butterfly card

Monochromatic Beauty Abounds

Today I am sharing the card I made for a team challenge. We were asked to make a simple card using either a stamp set you haven’t used or a colour you don’t use much. I chose to make a monochromatic card using the Beauty Abounds stamp set. I have used this stamp set once before, however the stamps I have used for this card are ones I haven’t previously used.

Making the card

The Beauty Abounds stamp set by Stampin' Up! used to make monochromatic butterfly card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beauty Abounds stamp set used for a monochromatic card

I decided to make a monochromatic card and to keep the supplies used to a minimum in line with Stampin’ Up!’s challenge to make simple cards #SimpleStamping. I chose the Gorgeous Grape ink pad.

The Beauty Abounds stamp set by Stampin' Up! used to make monochromatic butterfly card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beauty Abounds stamp set used for a monochromatic card

I cut a panel of Whisper White cardstock at 5⅜” by 3⅝” and inked up the larger of the 2 bokeh dot stamps with the Gorgeous Grape ink. I stamped the first image in the centre of the card, lifted the stamp, rotated it and stamped again without re-inking. I then rotated the stamp again and stamped without re-inking. In all I stamped 5 times without re-inking allowing the colour to get lighter and lighter eack time.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beauty Abounds stamp set used for a monochromatic card

I inked up one of the butterflies in the Gorgeous Grape ink and stamped it 5 times overlapping the bokeh dots, inking it up each time so the butterflies were nice and dark.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beauty Abounds stamp set used for a monochromatic card

I stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set in Gorgeous Grape ink and added the second part of the sentiment to the inside with the smaller bokeh dot image.  I had planned to add the stamped layer directly to the Thick Whisper White card front but had to add a Gorgeous Grape panel (5½” by 3¾”) to hide the fact that I had stamped on the reverse of the Whisper White cardstock and the stamping was showing through.

I really like the way the card turned out. Hope you like it.

Beauty Abounds stamp set by Stampin' Up! used for the Just Add Ink #438 colour challenge

Beauty Abounds for the Just Add Ink Colour Challenge #438

I have made a great card today using the Beauty Abounds stamp set for the Just Add Ink #438 challenge. The theme was to make a project using Lovely Lipstick and Granny Apple Green plus one other colour of our choice and I choose Gray Granite.

Making the card

I began with a piece of Whisper White cardstock measuring 5¼” by 3½” and stamped the large floral swirl from the Beauty Abounds stamp set in Gray Granite ink onto the panel.

Beauty Abounds stamp set by Stampin' Up! used for the Just Add Ink #438 colour challenge

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beauty Abounds stamp set used for the Just Add Ink #438 colour challenge

Taking the Lovely Lipstick and the Granny Apple Green Blends Combos I coloured in all the flowers and leaves. I stamped the sentiment in Lovely Lipstick onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and die cut it using my Big Shot and the Stitched Shapes Framelit Dies. I added a butterfly in Gray Granite ink above the sentiment. I die cut a scalloped Granny Apple Green circle using the Layering Circle dies and added it to the back of the sentiment with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

I added 2 more Gray Granite butterflies to the stamped panel and coloured them all in with the Lovely Lipstick and Granny Apple Green Blends.

I rounded the upper right corner of the panel with the Detailed Trio Punch and added the sentiment on Dimensionals to the bottom right corner. I added the stamped layer to a panel of Lovely Lipstick cardstock measuring 5⅜” by 3⅜” using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive and added the whole panel to a Granny Apple Green card base with the same glue. To finish I added a liberal scattering of Basic Rhinestones.

Butterfly Gala and Swirly Frames stamp sets by Stampin' Up! used for the GDP #168

Butterfly Gala used for the Global Design Project #168 challenge

Today I am sharing the card I made for the Global Design Project challenge number #168. I have used the gorgeous Butterfly Gala stamp set and the Swirly Frames stamp set to mimic the gorgeous wreath card designed by Sarah Berry.

Making the card

I began with a panel of Whisper White cardstock measuring 5⅜” by 3⅝”. I inked up the largest circle from the Swirly Frames stamp set using Gray Granite ink and stamped it towards the top of the Whisper White panel. Using the Detailed Trio Punch I rounded the upper left and lower right corners of the stamped panel..

Butterfly Gala and Swirly Frames stamp sets by Stampin' Up! used for the GDP #168

www.crafty-rootes.com – Butterfly Gala and Swirly Frames stamp sets used for the GDP #168

I stamped a number of the small butterflies from the Butterfly Gala stamp set onto scraps of Whisper White cardstock in Gray Granite ink and punched them out using the Butterfly Duet Punch. I coloured the butterflies in using the dark Petal Pink, dark Mint Macaron and dark Balmy Blue Blends pens; I wanted to keep to subtle pastel colours for this card. I added a body to each using Gray granite ink. Using the triple tiny butterfly stamp from the Needle & Thread stamp set I added the butterflies randomly around the circle in Balmy Blue, Mint Macaron and Petal Pink ink.

The sentiment from the Butterfly Gala stamp set was stamped in Balmy Blue ink in the centre f the circle and added the punched butterflies using Mini Glue Dots. I added the decorated panel to a piece of Mint Macaron cardstock having rounded the upper left and lower right corners as before. The whole panel was then added to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals. To finishe I added some of the lovely Share What You Love Artisan Pearls.

Lovely card made using the Abstract Impressions stamp set by Stampin' Up!

Abstract Impressions for September Classes

This month’s classes focused on the gorgeous Abstract Impressions stamp set and co-ordinating Springtime Impressions thinlit dies. Although the weather in the UK has cooled down I didn’t feel ready yet to do a Christmas class and this fabulous set was just what I needed for some summery flower card.

Thank You card

For the first card we started with a panel of Whisper White measuring 4” by 2⅝”. We stamped the more solid of the leaf stalk images in Lemon Lime Twist ink and added the more detailed image on top in Granny Apple Green ink. The ladies loved the fact that they did not have to line up the images, indeed abstract is definitely the way to go. We then inked up the solid spray of blossoms in Grapefruit Grove and stamped off once onto grid paper before stamping above the leaves, this gives a lighter shade. The more detailed flower image was then stamped on top in full strength Grapefruit Grove ink.

Lovely card made using the Abstract Impressions stamp set by Stampin' Up!

www.crafty-rootes.com – Abstract Impressions and Springtime Impressions for a card class

Using the Detailed Trio Punch we rounded the upper left corner of the stamped panel and the same corner of a piece of Grapefruit Grove cardstock 4⅛” by 2¾” before adhering them together with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

Taking the solid flower spray image we inked it in Granny Apple Green ink and stamped onto opposing corners of a Granny Apple Green card base. The sentiment was stamped in Grapefruit Grove ink onto scrap Whisper White cardstock and was punched out using the Tailored Tag Punch. Using the same punch we also punched a piece of Highland Heather cardstock. This piece was cut in half using scissors and the pieces glued to the top and bottom of the sentiment. This piece was then added to the stamped panel with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

Using the Tailored Tag Punch we banner ended a piece of Whisper White and Highland Heather cardstock 4⅛” by ¼”, cut each piece in half and glued them  to the card front. The stamped topper was then added to the card front on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Birthday Card

We started by running a panel of Whisper White cardstock measuring 5⅜” by 3⅝” through the Big Shot using the new Embossing Mats and the huge floral corner die from the Springtime Impressions. The ladies absolutely loved this new technique. We then stamped the large abstract flower onto the embossed piece in Grapefruit Grove, 3rd generation for the base layer, 2nd generation for the middle layer and full strength for the final layer. We also stamped it onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock.

Lovely card made using the Abstract Impressions stamp set by Stampin' Up!

www.crafty-rootes.com – Abstract Impressions and Springtime Impressions for a card class

We stamped the smaller flower onto the embossed panel in Highland Heather ink, 2nd generation for the solid image and full strength for the detailed image. We stamped the same image again onto our scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock and onto a Stitched Oval from the Stitched Shapes dies.

Next we stamped the sentiment from Beautiful Bouquet stamp set in Granny Apple Green ink and added a Highland Heather flower to the die cut oval. We stamped a few leaves in Garden Green and Lemon Lime Twist ink and added the stitched oval to the embossed panel.

Using the Detailed Trio Punch we rounded the bottom right corner of the embossed panel, a panel of Highland Heather measuring 5½” by 3¾” and a Grapefruit Grove card base and adhered all the layers together with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive. The Stitched Oval was added with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the extra flowers fussy cut and added with glue.

Butterfly Card

We began by a placing a die cut Stitched Oval onto a Thick Whisper White card base and drawing round it. We then inked up the larger flower in 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation Grapefruit Grove, the smaller flower in 1st and 2nd generation Highland Heather and a variety of leaves in Granny Apple Green ink. The trick with this sort of card is to stamp all the images partly inside the oval and partly outside the oval and to start with the largest image and finishing with the smallest images.

Lovely card made using the Abstract Impressions stamp set by Stampin' Up!

www.crafty-rootes.com – Abstract Impressions and Springtime Impressions for a card class

We die cut the butterfly from the Springtime Impressions dies and added it to the Stitched oval with a small strip of dimensionals and added a bow made from the ⅛” Grapefruit Grove ribbon. The oval was then added to the card front with dimensionals.

This is such an unusual colour combo but looks so bright and summery. I hope you like the cards.

Painted Glass Coastal Cabana butterflies

Painted Glass Sneak Peek

Today I am sharing with you a sneak peek of some new product which will be available in the new 2018-2019 Annual Catalogue from the 1st June. The stamp set I am using today is called Painted Glass and is absolutely gorgeous, I especially love the really old fashioned manuscript style font.

Method

I began with a strip of Whisper White cardstock 5⅞” by 2¼”, inked up the delicate little butterfly stamp in Archival Basic Black ink and stamped it randomly down the entire strip. I then took my Coastal Cabana Marker…….yes y this gorgeous colour which was one of the 2013 – 2015 In Color‘s is now coming back into the Brights color family as part of Stampin’ Up!’s colour revamp . I was so happy when I found I still had the marker and a small amount of the cardstock in my collection. Anyway, I digress……I coloured in parts of each butterfly using the Coastal Cabana Marker.

Painted Glass Coastal Cabana butterflies

www.crafty-rootes.com – Painted Glass stamp set by Stampin’ Up! sneak peek

I added the stamped panel onto a layer of Basic Black cardstock 5⅞” by 2½” using Tombow Liquid Adhesive then adding the whole piece to the front of a Coastal Cabana card base again using Tombow.

Painted Glass Coastal Cabana butterflies

Taking another piece of Whisper White cardstock 5⅞” by 1” I stamped the beautiful sentiment in Archival Basic Black ink roughly in the centre of the piece then trimmed the cardstock, using my Stampin’ Trimmer, so that the sentiment would sit over the butterfly panel. The sentiment was then added to the card front with Stampin Dimensionals.

I stamped another butterfly onto scrap Whisper White cardstock and cut it out using Stampin’ Up!’s  really sharp Paper Snips. After colouring in part of the butterfly with my Coastal Cabana Marker I added some Basic Rhinestones to the butterfly body and added it to the card front with Tombow Liquid Adhesive.

Such a pretty card using one of our returning colours. Hope you like it.

Spring/Summer cards and a lidded box

Easter/Spring Adult Education All Day Event

Thank you to all the lovely ladies who came to my Adult Education Easter/Spring themed event on Sunday 25th March. I am sharing today the projects they made. I had set up 5 project tables where they made either 2 cards or a simple lidded box + the sweet little bird house featured in the post on the 23rd March.

Spring/Summer cards and a lidded box

www.crafty-rootes,com – Spring/Summer-Adult-Education-Workshop using Stampin’ Up! product

On arrival each lady was given a pack containing all the pre-cut cardstock layers and card bases they needed to complete the card projects and during the day they moved from table to table making all the projects. The lidded box was pre-scored for them and just needed to be trimmed, put together and decorated. They did use the Simply Scored Scoring Tool to score the cardstock for the birdhouse and assembled this from scratch.

At the table featuring the Watercolor Wings set they were able to try out 4 step stamping using the new Stamparatus  stamp positioning tool which was a resounding success, everybody loved it! They also used the sponge brayer plus an embossing folder and Big Shots to die cut lots of pieces. They also used the Stampin’ Blends on a couple of the projects and really enjoyed using them.
