A pretty floral card made for the Just Add Ink #441 challenge using Stampin' Up! products

Just Add Ink #441 Challenge using Wonderful Romance

Today I am sharing the card I made for the Just Add Ink #441 challenge which this week features a photo. The challenge asked us to use the photo as inspiration when making our own project to share. I chose to use the lovely soft colour palette for my card.

Making the card

I decided to use the gorgeous new stamp set called Wonderful Romance with the co-ordinating Wonderful Floral dies to make my project.

www.crafty-rootes.com -Wonderful Romance stamp set and Wonderful Floral dies used for the Just Add Ink #441 Challenge

I began by taking a scrap panel of Watercolor Paper which I placed onto my Stamparatus. Because the surface of Watercolor Paper is textured it is often difficult to get a good stamped image and using the Stamparatus allows me to stamp repeatedly in the same position, building up the layers of ink until I have achieved the depth of colour I am looking for. I placed the largest floral image face down onto the Watercolor Paper, closed the ‘door’ and picked up the stamp. I inked up the stamp using StaZon black ink for this project as I knew I would be watercoloring the image.

www.crafty-rootes.com -Wonderful Romance stamp set and Wonderful Floral dies used for the Just Add Ink #441 Challenge

Taking inspiration from the photograph I chose to use Mint Macaron, Petal Pink, Highland Heather and Crumb Cake inks and used my Aquapainter to add colour to the image. I love watercolouring; by layering the ink a little at a time you can achieve great texture and dimension. When the Watercolor Paper was dry I ran it through my Bis Shot with the co-ordinating Wonderful Floral Dies. I also die cut the sweet label from the same set of dies and stamp the sentiment from the same stamp set in the same way using my Stamparatus to get a good dark impression. I added the tiny flower from the stamp set and used Highland Heather and my Aquaipainter to colour it in.

Taking a 5⅜” by 3⅝” piece of Petal Pink cardstock and the new Lace Textured Impressions Embossing Folder I ran it through my Big Shot. I added the embossed panel to a piece of Mint Macaron cardstock measuring 5½” by 3¾” using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive. This panel was then added with the same adhesive to the front of a Thick Whisper White card base.

I laid the die cut floral piece over the sentiment panel and adhered them together using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive and added the whole piece to the card front on Stampin’ Dimensionals. I added  some of the Share What You Love Artisan Pearls to the flower centres to complete the card.

I stamped the smaller leaf image in Mint Macaron ink inside the card and on the envelope.

Such a pretty card, I really hope you like it.

Bloom by Bloom stamp set used to make a card for the Inspire. Create #035 Challenge

Bloom by Bloom for the Inspire, Create Challenge #035

Another sketch challenge to play along with today, this time it is the turn of the Inspire. Create #035 challenge. I loved this sketch and knew right away that I wanted to use the stunning Bloom by Bloom stamp set.

Making the card

I began by die cutting the largest Stitched Circle using my Big Shot and the Stitched Shapes Framelits. I randomly stamped a variety of images from the Bloom by Bloom stamp set in Flirty Flaming, So Saffron, Mint Macaron and Blueberry Bushel inks. I began with the largest flower, then the leaves and finishing with the smallest flower.

I added a strip of Flirty Flamingo cardstock ⅜” wide and trimmed it down. I added it to the stamped circle with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive. I stamped the sentiment from the Apron of Love stamp set in Blueberry Bushel ink then stamped it again…….just because I could and added it onto the Flirty Flamingo strip.

I really felt the card needed a little something extra so stamped the smallest flower in Blueberry Bushel ink onto the card front itself and added some of the Share What You Love Artisan Pearls in Mint Macaron to complete the card.

I am really happy with this card. I hope you like it.

CAS Colours & Sketches #305 Challenge using the Home to Roost Sale-a-Bration stamp set

Home to Roost for the CAS Colours & Sketches #305

I love a good sketch challenge, don’t you, they really push me out of my comfort zone and make me look at my crafty stash in new ways. Today, I am playing along with the CAS Colours and Sketches #304 challenge. This sketch looks deceptively simple but I found it really hard to create something I liked.

Making the card

I quickly decided that the cute chicken from the Home to Roost stamp set was the image I wanted to use for this sketch. I chose 2 patterns from the Share What You Love Designer Series Paper stack (dsp) as the rustic look of these papers goes so well with this stamp set. I cut one piece of dsp 3” by 3” and the second piece at 2 ½” by 2 ½” and added them to the front of a Thick Very Vanilla card front with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

I stamped the chicken in Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto a piece of Very Vanilla 2 ½” by 2 ½” and die cut it using my Big Shot and the Layering Circle Framelits. I die cut a slightly larger scalloped circle from Crumb Cake cardstock.

Using the gorgeous Blends pens in Crumb Cake, Rich Razzelberry and Old Olive I coloured in the chicken. The stamped layer was added to the scalloped circle with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive. The whole piece was added to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set in Early Espresso onto a ⅜” strip of Very Vanilla cardstock and added it to the card front.

I wondered if I should add some bling to the card but I really don’t feel it needs so decided that less is more and left it alone…….so hard to do…..

Vibrant Vases for the GDP #173 Colour Challenge

Today I have been playing along with the Global Design Project (GDP#173) colour challenge which this week features Soft Sea Foam, So Saffron and Petal Pink, all from the Subtles collection of colours. I used the gorgeous Vibrant Vases stamp set to make my card.

Making the card

I began with a piece of Whisper White cardstock 3 ¾” by 3”. I inked up the solid vase with So Saffron ink, stamped off once onto my Grid Paper then stamped onto the Whisper White cardstock. I stamped the detailed vase image over the top in full strength So Saffron ink. I love the added dimension you get when you stamp off the solid image.

I die cut the stamped vase image using my Big Shot and the lovely new Stitched Rectangles dies. I chose my sentiment from the vibrant vases stamp set, masked off the word ‘always’ and then inked up the ‘you are loved’ in So Saffron ink and stamped the image at the top of the stitched rectangle. The whole stamped piece was then added to a panel of Petal Pink cardstock measuring 3⅝” by 2¾” using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

Taking the small bokeh dot image from the Beauty Abounds stamp set I stamped the dots in a wavy line across the front of a Thick Whisper White card base in all 3 colours. The stamped panel was added to the card front on Stampin Dimensionals and a scattering of Iridescent Sequins added to give a little sparkle.

I have to say that these are not colours I would normally have chosen but I really love this card. I hope you like it.

Sweet card made for the Just Add Ink #440 Callenge using the Tea Time framelits and Tea Together stamp set.

Tea Together for the Just Add Ink #440 Challenge

Today I have used the Tea Together stamp set and co-ordinating Tea Time dies to make a card for the Just Add Ink #440 challenge. The theme this week is ‘add something new. The stamp set and dies were my new items and I used them with the Tropical Escape dsp and the Scallops embossing folder.

Making the card

I started by choosing a piece of the Tropical Escape dsp, and after a lot of trial and error went for the soft Blushing Bride floral pattern. I decided to use the Stamparatus to stamp the teapot image; I wanted the image to show on the dsp and with the Stamparatus I could stamp it multiple times to get the depth of colour I was looking for. I used Basic Gray ink to do my stamping. When the image was stamped I die cut it using my Big Shot and the Tea Time dies.

I chose a Smoky Slate card base and stamped the flower from the Tropical Chic stamp set in Smoky Slate ink randomly over the card front. The flower is the identical image to the flower on the piece of die cut dsp. The tone on tone stamping just gives some interest to the background.

Taking a panel of Whisper White cardstock 5⅜” by 3⅝” I ran it through the Big Shot with the Striped Scallops Embossing Folder and added it to the card front on Stampin’ Dimensionals. I added the die cut tea pot to the embossed panel with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

I stamped the sentiment from the Balloon Celebrations stamp set in Blushing Bride and Smoky Slate onto scrap Whisper White cardstock before using the Banner Triple Punch to flag the end. I added a thinner strip of Blushing Bride cardstock behind and added the piece to the card front with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.  To finish the card I added a scattering of the gorgeous Share What You love Artisan Pearls.

Clean and simple card made for the CAS Colour and Sketches #304 Challenge

Needle and Thread – CAS Colours & Sketches #304 Challenge

Today I am playing along with the CAS Colours and Sketches #304 challenge which this week is a colour challenge.

Making the card

I started with a panel of Whisper White cardstock measuring 5⅛” by 3 ¼”. I inked up the double leaf stamp in Crumb Cake ink and stamped it into the lower right corner of the Whisper White panel. I added the larger flower in Real Red ink and stamped a trio of the small flowers in the Balmy Blue ink around the main image. I love the hand embroidered effect these stamps give, they have so much dimension.

Sweet card made for the Global Design #172 challenge to CASE a card

Needle & Thread for GDP #172 Challenge

Today I am sharing a card made for the Global Design Project – GDP #172 Challenge which this week is CASE’ing this gorgeous card designed by Shawn De Oliveira.

Making the card

I really liked the simplicity of the card and started by taking a panel of Whisper White 5⅜” by 3⅝” and embossed the left hand side using my Big Shot and one of the lovely Petal Pairs embossing folders. I wanted to keep the effect of the leaves from Shawn’s card.

Lovely butterfly cards made using the Botanical Butterfly Sale-a-Bration designer series paper and the Butterfly Duet Punch

Butterfly January Classes

Today I am sharing the trio of cards made by the ladies who came to the Butterfly January classes this week. The class was designed around the Butterfly Gala Stamp set and co-ordinating Butterfly Duet Punch and was inspired by a card I made for the Inspire Create #032 challenge on the 4th December 2018. I also wanted to give each lady a 6” by 6” sample pack of the gorgeous Botanical Butterfly dsp to use in class and to take the remainder home to add to their stash.

Emboss Resist Technique

A pretty birthday card made using the Butterfly Gala stamp set and embossed resist technique

www.crafty-rootes.com – Butterfly Gala stamp set and embossed resist for a pretty birthday card

The first card we made was the card I designed for the Inspire, Create Challenge involving embossing and adding ink using sponge brayers, such a fun technique. As I have already blogged about this card please follow this link for all the details –

A Little Note card

We started with a Lemon Lime Twist card base, each lady then chose a piece of dsp from their sample pack, cutting it to 5⅝” by 3⅞”. The upper right corner of both the card base and the dsp were rounded using the Detailed trio Punch and the dsp added to the card front using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

We stamped a sentiment in Lemon Lime twist ink onto a panel of Whisper White measuring 4⅛” by 2¾”, rounded the upper right corner before adding the panel to a layer of Highland Heather 4⅜” by 3”. This panel was then added to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Lastly the ladies selected a large and a small butterfly from the dsp and punched them out using the Butterfly Bouquet Punch. The butterflies were added using Mini Glue Dots and the card was finished with a scattering of Basic Rhinestones.

Butterfly Birthday card

We started the final card by choosing a piece of dsp and laying it, offset onto the front of a Thick Whisper White card base. I then lifted the corner and applied Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive underneath before trimming away the excess dsp and adhering the rest of the panel. Some of the ladies found it easier to draw around the dsp making it easier to trim off the excess.

We stamped a sentiment in Highland Heather ink. Next we punched out 1 large and 3 small butterflies adding them to the card front using Mini Glue Dots and finishing with a scattering of Basic Rhinestones.

I hope you like these cards.

A lovely card made for the Inspire, Create #034 Challenge using the Vibrant Vases stamp set by Stampin' Up!

Vibrant Vases for the Inspire, Create Challenge #034

Today I am sharing the sweet card I made for the Inspire Create colour challenge #034 using the new Vibrant Vases stamp set. I love that Stampin’ Up! have brought us another stamp set to use with our existing Vases Builder Punch, such great value for money.

Challenge

For the challenge we had to use the following colours:

Making the card

I began by stamping the base colours of each of the vases in either Call Me Clover, Calypso Coral or Pineapple Punch inks onto scrap Whisper White cardstock. I checked which way the images were punched out using the Vases Builder Punch to make sure I stamped them the correct way up. I the stamped the detailed version of each vase over the top using Night of Navy ink, I love the two tone look this gives to the vases. I then punched out each of the vases using the Vases Builder Punch.

A lovely card made for the Inspire, Create #034 Challenge using the Vibrant Vases stamp set by Stampin' Up!

www.crafty-rootes.com – Vibrant Vases used to make a card for the Inspire, Create Colour Challenge #034

Using the fab new Stitched Rectangle dies I cut a stitched rectangle from a piece of Whisper White cardstock measuring 4 ¼” by 3”. Placing each vase on the die cut Whisper White panel to get an idea of placement, I moved each vase aside and stamped the flowers in Memento Tuxedo Black ink – I had originally thought I would colour the flowers in with Blends but changed my mind.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Vibrant Vases used to make a card for the Inspire, Create Colour Challenge #034

Using the Pineapple Punch, Lovely Lipstick, Calypso Coral and Call Me Clover ink I filled in each of the flowers and leaves. I love that the infill stamps leave some white space on the flowers, so pretty. Using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive I added the vases below the flowers.

I then die cut a the next size up stitched rectangle from Night of Navy cardstock and the next size again from Whisper White cardstock and glued the 3 rectangle layers together with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

Taking a Lovely Lipstick card base I added ¼” strips of Pineapple Punch, Calypso Coral, Call Me Clover and Night of Navy ink to the upper right side of the card front and added the stamped piece over the top on Stampin’ Dimensionals. To finish the card off I added some of the Happiness Blooms Enamel Dots.

I am really happy with this card, the colours really sing.

Jan 2019 Stamp 'N Hop blog hop using the Lovely Lattice stamp set

Lovely Lattice used for the Stamp’N Hop blog hop

Hello and welcome to January’s Stamp ‘N Hop blog hop where this month’s theme is Sale-a-Bration.  I love, love, love Sale-a-Bration……free stuff….oh yes bring it on and such great stuff as well.

If you have hopped over from Vicki Hunter  I am sure you enjoyed the project she shared as much as I did. After a lot of deliberation I have chosen to use the stunning stamp set called Lovely Lattice to make my card as I love the versatility of this set.

 Making the card

I started with a panel of Watercolor Paper measuring 5¼” by 3½” and stamped the large gorgeous image from the Lovely Lattice stamp set in Versamark ink and yes I did remember to use my embossing buddy, whoop whoop. I covered the panel with White embossing powder and heat set it using my Heat Tool.

Jan 2019 Stamp 'N Hop blog hop using the Lovely Lattice stamp set

ww.crafty-rootes.com – Lovely Lattice stamp set used for the Stamp ‘N Hop blog hop

I wanted to watercolor this image and find the easiest way to do this is to use my ink pad to press some ink onto a clear block and colour with an Aquapainter. I used Coastal Cabana for the flowers, starting with a light touch and adding more layers of colour to give depth and dimension. The flower centres were coloured using So Saffron ink and Granny Apple Green was used for the leaves. I added Smoky Slate around the whole image to ground it and also coloured the lattice area with the Smoky Slate again adding depth by layering up the colour.

The sentiment from the Amazing life stamp set was stamped in Versamark onto a scrap of Basic Gray cardstock, covered in White embossing powder and heat set with my Heat Tool.

I used the Detailed Trio Punch to round the upper left and lower right corner of the stamped layer and a layer of So Saffron measuring 5⅜” by 3⅝” and a layer of Coastal Cabana measuring 5⅝” by 3⅞” and adhered the layers together with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

The finished topper was then added to a Smoky Slate card base and the sentiment was added using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive. To finish the card I added a scatter of Share What You Love Artisan Pearls.

I absolutely love this card, the soft colours work so well with this image. Please hop along to see what the lovely Susan Simpson is sharing with us today.
