Masterfully Made Kintsugi card for the Stamping With Friends Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to the Stamping With Friends Blog Hop where we are sharing projects made using the Kintsugi Technique. This is a Japanese technique usually defined as ‘golden joinery’ and is often used to mend pottery and ceramics. The theory is that by making the join between the broken pieces – often gold, silver, copper or platinum – obvious it enhances the beauty of the piece.

 

Colours used in this project are:

 

To recreate the kintsugi card, you will need:

Berry Burst card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” – scored at 4⅛”
Basic White card – 5½” by 3¾” x 2 – one for the inside
Masterfully Made dsp – 5⅜” by 3⅝”
Basic White card – 2” by 2”
Berry Burst card – 2½” by ⅝”

 

After choosing my piece of Masterfully Made designer series paper (dsp), I tore it into 5 pieces. You can do as many tears as you like and I thought 5 was a good number. I was careful to tear slowly and carefully to minimise white fluffy edges which don’t work so well for this technique.

 

Each torn piece would be embossed and fitted back together against an un embossed edge. So firstly, I needed to work out which side of each tear I would emboss.

 

When I had decided, I gently rubbed a Versamark pad over the torn edge. The edge was then dipped into Copper Embossing Powder and then heat set with my Heat Tool. I repeated this step until all the edges were embossed.

 

The pieces were then placed onto one of the large Basic White panels and adhered in place using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive. I made sure to keep the embossed edges on top. The panel was then mounted onto the Berry Burst card base on Dimensionals.

 

The sentiment, from the Charming Sentiments stamp set, was stamped in Berry Burst ink onto the square of Basic White card. This was then die cut using the Stylish Shapes Dies.

The ends of the strip of Berry Burst card were flagged and the piece added to the back of the stitched circle. This was then glued to the card front.

 

A trio of copper Brushed Metallic Dots completed the card. I loved trying out this new technique and I love the effect it achieves.
