Seaside theme for a Stamp-a-Stack

Thank you to the lovely ladies who joined me for my summer themed Stamp-a-Stack event this weekend. We had such a good time and made so many lovely cards.

All the projects for the day were seaside themed to get us into the mood for the fore-casted high temperatures later this week. On arrival each lady was given a clear wallet containing a pack of By the Shore dsp, 20 card bases in a variety of co-ordinating colours, a pack of Metallic Enamel Shapes, 20 Very Vanilla Envelopes and packets of pre-cut card stock layers to make each card. Mind you we all had a good laugh when we realised that I had only put 10 card bases in each pack………definitely a muppet moment. Luckily I only live 3 minutes away and was able to nip home and grab more cardstock to cut and score the missing bases.

As always the day whizzed by so quickly. Here is a picture of some of the ladies hard at work and of some of the projects they made.

Anniversary card using the Bloomin’ Love stamp set

I absolutely love the card I made for my sister in law and her husband’s wedding anniversary. I loved it so much that I put it straight in the post without photographing it………..definitely a senior moment. So I looked back through my photographed projects to find the card I based the anniversary card on and used that photo instead. I used the Bloomin’ Love stamp set to create the card as I love the delicate floral heart from this set.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Bloomin’ Heart stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I stamped the ‘floral heart’, from the Bloomin’ Love stamp set randomly on a panel of Whisper White cardstock using Night of Navy and Bermuda Bay inks. I added the tiny open heart using the same colours in the white space between the larger hearts. When the ink had dried, I cut the panel into 3 irregular sized pieces and mounted them, using Tombow Liquid Adhesive, onto a panel of Night of Navy cardstock. The Night of Navy panel was then added to a Thick Whisper White card base using Tombow Liquid Adhesive.

The sentiment in the picture is from the Bloomin’ Love stamp set and was punched out using the Washi Label punch which has now retired. For the  unphotographed card I chose the ‘congratulations’ sentiment  from the One Wild Ride stamp set and stamped it in Night of Navy ink onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and punched out using the Decorative Label Punch and for added interest backed it with a punched piece of Night of Navy and Bermuda Bay cardstock and added it to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Awesomely Artistic meets Fabulous Flaming

I absolutely love this card which was made using the Fabulous Flamingo stamp set which was my prize patrol win at Onstage Live in Amsterdam last month. Flamingos’ are really popular in fashion and home décor at the moment, I see them everywhere and was keen to try something a little different.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Fabulous Flamingo meets Awesomely Artistic by Stampin’ Up!

I chose a piece of Whisper White cardstock, inked up the solid ‘flamingo image’ with Wisteria Wonder ink. I then inked up the large ‘leaf and flower image’ from the Awesomely Artistic stamp set with Elegant Eggplant ink and stamped it down on the inked up flamingo body. This is known as the ‘kissing’ technique and allows ink and pattern to transfer onto a solid image. I then stamped the patterned flamingo body onto the Whisper White panel. Wow………it looked amazing.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Fabulous Flamingo meets Awesomely Artistic by Stampin’ Up!

To go along with the slightly psychedelic flamingo I chose to stamp the reeds and leafy boughs with Melon Mambo ink. The resulting image was so bright and powerful, loved it. Using Tombow Liquid Adhesive I mounted the stamped panel onto a piece of Melon Mambo cardstock having rounded the upper right corner on both pieces. I laid this panel onto the front of a Thick Whisper White card base to work out my positioning before stamping the sentiment from the Fabulous Flamingo stamp set in Melon Mambo ink.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Fabulous Flamingo meets Awesomely Artistic by Stampin’ Up!

I felt the card base needed something to pull the whole thing together and decided to add the ‘leaf and flower image’ from the Awesomely Artistic stamp set in Elegant Eggplant ink in the upper left corner. It was absolutely the right thing to do, it looked amazing. I added the flamingo panel to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals to finish the card.

Seaside Shore Table gifts for my Stamp-a-Stack

Another sneak peek today but this time I am sharing the treat boxes I have made for my Stamp-a-Stack event on the 6th May at Manor Farm, Bourn. I decided on a summer/seaside theme for the projects that the ladies will be making and wanted a little sweet treat to help them get into the mood.

I cut a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock into a 5½” by 7¾”. Using the Simply Scored Scoring Tool I scored on the long side at ½”, 1”, 6¾” & 7¼”. I then rotated the cardstock 90⁰ and scored at ½”, 2½”, 3” & 5” on the short side. I  folded and burnished all the score lines using my Bone Folder before cutting and forming the tabs and box closures at either end using scissors – see picture.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Seaside Shore by Stampin’ Up!

Before putting the box together I stamped an aquarium scene working from the bottom up to the top. I used Dapper Denim, Calypso Coral, Blushing Bride, Soft Sky and Mint Macaron inks to do this. I like to do my stamping after the box is scored and ready for assembling as I can see exactly where to put all the images to create my scene. After the stamping was complete I added Fast Fuse Adhesive to the side tabs and closed the box. The base and top openings then just tuck in.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Seaside Shore by Stampin’ Up!

I added some Dapper Denim Ruched Ribbon to the top of the box along with a sentiment from the Designer Tee stamp set which was die cut using the Big Shot and a tag from the Curvy Keepsake Thinlit Dies and tied on using Night of Navy Baker’s Twine. Inside is a gorgeous Guylian Seashell bar of chocolate……..yum……

Happy Birthday Balloon Adventure

I have been using the Balloon Adventures stamp set today as I needed to make a quick birthday card. I stamped a variety of balloons using the solid, spotty and striped balloons from the stamp set onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock and punched them out using the Balloon Bouquet Punch. I had more balloons than I needed and I put the spares into small Ziploc bags and store these inside the stamp set box to use on other projects.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Balloon Adventure by Stampin’ Up!

I took a layer of Whisper White cardstock and stamped a number of balloons randomly using the same colours as I used for the punched balloons, Tempting Turquoise, Real Red and Crushed Curry, in the top half of the panel and added strings using Archival Basic Black Ink. Using Tombow Liquid Adhesive I added a strip of retired Cherry on Top dsp, you could use any dsp that co-ordinates with your colour palette. I then added a thin piece of Tempting Turquoise cardstock to cover the ends of the balloon strings. I added 3 of the punched balloons onto the topper using Stampin’ Dimensionals to give some height to the card.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Birthday card using Balloon Adventures stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

The sentiment from the same stamp set was stamped onto Whisper White cardstock using Archival Basic Black ink and punched out using the Classic Label Punch. It was added to the topper using Stampin’ Dimensionals. The whole topper was then added to a Tempting Turquoise card base.

Home Sweet Home Thinlit Dies make gorgeous beach huts

I have been starting to think about the display items for my upcoming Stamp-a-Stack on the 6th May. The theme of the day is ‘Summer’ and what is more summery than going to the seaside. In the UK some of the seaside resorts have a row of really cute Beach Huts, no bigger than a large garden shed,  where you can change into you swimming costumes, eat your picnic, store all your beachy items and get a little shade or shelter from the rain! The huts are usually right next to the beach and are often painted in lovely colours.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Home Sweet Home Thinlit Dies and Sweet Home Stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I set to work to create 3 of these huts using the Home Sweet Home Thinlit Dies and the co-ordinating Sweet Home stamp set.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Home Sweet Home Thinlit Dies and Sweet Home Stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

For the 1st one I die cut 2 of the large hut builder pieces using So Saffron cardstock. I die cut the opening door from the front panel then stamped the door image from the Sweet Home stamp set in Garden Green ink onto Whisper White cardstock and cut it out using the die. I adhered the door panel onto the opening door part and added a tiny retired metal brad as a door handle. The door frame was cut from Crumb Cake cardstock and added using Tombow Liquid Adhesive. I die cut a window on each side of the hut and at the back and added a Crumb Cake die cut window frame on top. I then folded and burnished all the score lines and add Tear and Tape adhesive on all the tabs to put the hut together. I added a die cut Whisper White banner to the front of the hut as a finishing touch. I die cut the roof shingles from Crumb Cake cardstock, 6 for each side and glued then on starting at the bottom of the roof slope and working my way to the top, overlapping and offsetting each layer. To finish it off I added a small strip of Crumb Cake cardstock, scored down the middle to cover the top of the roof.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Home Sweet Home Thinlit Dies and Sweet Home Stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

The 2nd hut was made from Pool Party cardstock which was stamped repeatedly with the 3 line image from the Sweet Home stamp set in Pool Party ink giving a wood panelled effect. The door was also stamped in Pool Party ink and a Pool Party Enamel shape was added as a door handle. The door frame and windows were cut from Whisper White cardstock and the roof was made using some retired White Corrugated card. The hut was adhered together in the same way.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Home Sweet Home Thinlit Dies and Sweet Home Stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

The 3rd hut was made using Pink Pirouette cardstock with a Smoky Slate cardstck door and door frame and Whisper White windows. A Pink Pirouette enamel shape was added to the door as a handle. The roof was made using strips of Very Vanilla cardstock, cut part way up using the (retired) Fringe Scissors.

I think the huts look fantastic and I can’t wait to start putting my display together.

Flower Patch makes a beautiful set of One Sheet Wonder cards

Here are the gorgeous cards we made in class this week using the One Sheet Wonder technique and the Flower Patch stamp set.

gave them each an A4 sheet of Whisper White cardstock and they stamped a variety of flower and leaf images from the Flower Patch stamp set randomly all over the paper. Having said that, some of the ladies really struggle with ‘random’ stamping but they all looked fab.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Flower Patch stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

The colours we used were Peakaboo Peach, Flirty Flamingo, Cucumber Crush, Sweet Sugarplum, Rose Red, Daffodil Delight and Basic Gray and the trick to a One Sheet Wonder is to start by stamping with the largest image first, then the second largest and so on until you get to the smallest, filling in as much of the white space as possible until the whole sheet is covered. When everyone was happy with their stamped piece we set about cutting the sheet apart using the Stampin’ Trimmer.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Flower Patch stamp set by Stampin’ Up! – One Sheet Wonder

The cutting is actually quite straight forward if you follow the template and number the pieces as you cut them. We used some Peakaboo Peach and Flirty Flamingo cardstock to back or edge the stamped pieces before adding them to card bases made of Thick Whisper White cardstock. We made 4 cards in class and the ladies had the pieces to make another 4 at home.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Flower Patch stamp set by Stampin’ Up! One Sheet Wonder

The ladies all loved this technique which is really versatile and I hope they will go home and try it with some of the stamp sets in their crafty stashes.

I made some really cute table gifts for the ladies using the same colour cardstock and a belly band cut from the same A4 sheet.

Envelope Punch Board boxes to hold little treats from Amsterdam for my team

Oops meant to post this yesterday but seem to have got my days muddled up………don’t you hate when that happens……….Still better late than never. Here are some cute  little boxes I made to hold some choccy treats for my team members as they were unable to come with me to Onstage in Amsterdam. I had to share the love and chocolate always hits the spot.

I divided the chocolates so that all my team members had the same number – don’t want any fighting, measured the pile of chocolate to work out the size of paper I needed to make the box and after a lot of head scratching I decided to use the Envelope Punch Board. I went to a fantastic site – http://thecraftyowl.co.uk/boxbuster  – entered the measurements and the amazing calculator told me that I needed a piece of dsp measuring 5¼” by 5¼” – I used the retired ‘Inside The Lines’ dsp for to make my boxes but any dsp would work. The box buster is such an amazing tool created by Joanne James  aka The Crafty Owl and I was lucky enough to meet her, along with her team mate Helen whilst at Onstage. We are also going to be sharing team training with Joanne’s team in May which should be fun.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Envelope Punch Board project using Stampin’ Up! product

Using the Envelope Punch Board I punched and scored at 1 ½” and 2 ½” then turned the dsp 90⁰, matched up the 2 score lines, punched and scored again and repeated all the way around.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Envelope Punch Board project using Stampin’ Up! product

Then I folded and burnished the score lines and cut up the 4 tabs on the long sides before adding glue (Fast Fuse Adhesive) to the tabs and adhering them to the short sides forming the base of the box. I popped in the chocolates and folded the 2 small side tabs in, one of the large tabs then folded inwards with the tip tucked in. The remaining side then folded over to close the top. It is slightly domed and the point is folded down and held closed with a Mini Glue Dot.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Envelope Punch Board treat boxes made using Stampin’ Up! products

Once closed, I wrapped a length of twine, I used retired stock, 3 times around the box and tied in a bow. I stamped the sentiment from the Banners For You stamp set onto Whisper White cardstock and die cut it using a sweet little tag from the Cutie Pie Thinlet dies and tied it on using White Baker’s Twine.

Easter Cards using Letters for You

Having had a fab time with my team mates at Onstage Live in Amsterdam over the last few days it was back to the real world today as I got my Easter cards ready to post. Here is how i made them.

Using the Letters for You stamp set I stamped the letters E, A, S, T, E and R in Calypso Coral, Marina Mist, So Saffron, Pool Party, Pear Pizzazz and Wisteria Wonder ink onto Whisper White cardstock. I think these soft, subtle colours go so well for projects with Spring themes. I then die cut the letters using the co-ordinating Large Letter Framelit dies. I wanted the letters to have some dimension and achieved this by die-cutting 2 extra letters from Whisper White cardstock  for each stamped letter and gluing them using Tombow Liquid Adhesive, one on top of the other so that the letters are raised up.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Letters For You stamp set, Large Letter Framelits and Sprinkles of Life by Stampin’ Up!

I cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock 6¼” by 2¾” and using the stems stamp from the Sprinkles of Life stamp set I stamped along the bottom using Pear Pizzazz ink. I added the tiny flowers from the same set using Calypso Coral, So Saffron, Pool Party and Wisteria Wonder ink.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Letters For You stamp set, Large Letter Framelits and Sprinkles of Life by Stampin’ Up!

The letters were adhered above the flower border using Tombow Liquid Adhesive. A tiny flower was punched in co-ordinating card using the Tree Builder Punch and added to a letter with a Mini Glue Dot and a Basic Rhinestone added for some interest.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Letters For You stamp set, Large Letter Framelits and Sprinkles of Life by Stampin’ Up!

I layered the topper onto a co-ordinating colour cardstock – Pear Pizzazz, So Saffron, Wisteria Wonder, Marina Mist or Calypso Coral and added the whole piece to a DL size Whisper White card base using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Gorgeous elegant card using the Beautiful You stamp set

Today I have been making a card using the gorgeous Beautiful You stamp set, I think this is my favourite set from this years Spring/ Summer catalogue.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beautiful You stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I stamped the lovely, elegant lady using Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto Whisper White cardstock and die cut her out using the Stitched Shapes framelits. I stamped the lady again onto a piece of Floral Boutique dsp and cut out the dress using a pair of scissors. I glued the dsp dress onto the die cut lady using Tombow Liquid Adhesive. I coloured the ladies hat using a Pink Pirouette Marker.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beautiful You stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I die cut a scalloped oval from Pink Pirouette cardstock and a plain oval from Night of Navy cardstock using the Layering Oval framelits. I used Tombow Liquid Adhesive to adhere the stamped piece to the Pink Pirouette oval and added them to the Night of Navy oval.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beautiful You by Stampin’ Up!

I took a Whisper White panel and placed my chosen mask on top. Using a Sponge Dauber and the Pink Pirouette ink pad I inked randomly through the mask to create a spotty background effect. I stamped the sentiment in Night of Navy ink in the lower left hand corner. I wrapped some Thick Night of Navy Baker’s Twine 3 times around the Whisper White layer adhering the twine with sellotape at the back. I added the Whisper White panel to a layer of Pink Pirouette cardstock with Tombow Liquid Adhesive before adding the whole piece to a Night of Navy card base. I added the oval piece on top of the Baker’s Twine using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

This is such an elegant looking card, I love Night of Navy and Pink Pirouette together.
