A fresh and simple Tropical Chic card

Tropical Chic, fresh and simple

Today I am sharing a clean and simple card made using the Tropical Chic stamp set from the new Annual Catalogue.

Making the Tropical Chic card

I wanted to use shades of green for this card to keep it fresh and simple and started with a Soft Sea Foam card base. I really love this colour; it is a fantastic addition to our new colour palette.

A fresh and simple Tropical Chic card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Tropical Chic by Stampin’ Up! for a fresh and simple card

I die cut 3 squares from Whisper White cardstock using the Stitched Shapes Dies. I stamped a different leaf from the Tropical Chic stamp set onto each of the die cut squares using Shaded Spruce ink, Soft Sea Foam ink or Granny Apple Green ink; this has become one of my go to colour combos this summer.

A fresh and simple Tropical Chic card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Tropical Chic by Stampin’ Up! for a fresh and simple card

I cut a panel of Granny Apple Green cardstock 5⅞” by 2” and adhered the stamped squares onto it using Multipurpose Liquid Glue taking care to leave an even border around all 3 images. I added a 5⅞” strip of Silver Foil to the bottom of the panel using the same adhesive.

I stamped the sentiment from the same Tropical Chic stamp set in Granny Apple Green ink onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and punched it out using the Everyday label Punch. I trimmed a little from the right side of the sentiment and added it beneath the stamped panel using the Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

The whole panel was added to the card front on Stampin’ Dimensionals. I stamped the same 3 leaf images in the same 3 colours onto a panel of Whisper White 5⅜ by 3⅝” for the inside of the card and again on the front of the envelope.

This is such a clean and simple card, love it……

3 fun sweater themed Christmas cards

Christmas Sweaters for October Classes

The Christmas Sweaters stamp set made for great projects at classes this we made 3 gorgeous cards and got covered in red ink and glitter……………….what’s not to like…..

Quirky Christmas card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Christmas Sweaters stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

We started with a simple card, stamping the adorable ‘fairy light sweater’ image using Momento Tuxedo Black ink across a panel of Whisper White 5⅞” by 1¾”. We then randomly coloured in the lights using Real Red, Pool Party and So Saffron ink pads and Blender Pens. After colouring we added the stamped piece to a layer of Pool Party 5⅞” by 2” and then to a Real Red layer 5⅞” by 2¼” using Tombow Liquid Adhesive.

We stamped the sentiment from the Star of Light stamp set using Real Red ink onto the Thick Whisper White card base before adding the stamped panel with Tombow Liquid Adhesive. This would be a great card to mass produce.

Christmas jumpers for a seasonal card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Christmas Sweaters stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

For the second card we stamped the ‘gingerbread’ jumper using the Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock. We coloured it in using Real Red, Pool Party, Crumb Cake and So Saffron ink pads and Blender Pens before using a circle from the Stitched Shapes Framelit dies and the Big Shot to cut it out. We also die cut a slightly larger scalloped circle from Real Red cardstock using the Layering Circle dies and glued the 2 layers together. The scalloped circles were added to one of the gorgeous Foil Snowflakes.

We stamped the jumper randomly onto a Pool Party panel 5⅜” by 3⅝”using Pool Party ink then wrapped a length of ⅛” Real Red Ribbon around the panel, securing it on the back with Sellotape. The panel was then added to a Pool Party card base using Tombow Liquid Adhesive.

Stampin’ Dimensionals were added to the back of the Foil Snowflake and the piece was added to the card front. To finish the card we added a bow made using the ⅛” Real Red Ribbon and adhered it using a Mini Glue Dot.

Gorgeous Santa sweater card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Christmas Sweaters stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

We used the ‘Santa Sweater’ to make the third card. The image was stamped using Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock and die cut using a square from the Stitched Shapes framelit dies. The sweater was then coloured in using the Real Red Marker Pen. We added colour to Santa’s glasses using the Crumb Cake ink pad and added colour to Santa’s face using a Calypso Coral Watercolor Pencil and the Blender Pens. He is such a jolly looking chap……. We covered his beard, mustache, eyebrows, hat brim and bobble with a thin coating of Tombow which we spread thinly using a cotton bud and covered it in Dazzling Diamonds Glitter………gorgeous. The stamped panel was added with Tombow to a square of Pool Party cardstock die cut using the Layering Squares dies.

We took a panel of Whisper White 5¼” by 3½”, inserted the lower right hand corner into the Winter Wonder Embossing Folder and ran it through the Big Shot. We then randomly stamped the rest of the panel with the tiny stars from the Star of Light stamp set using Pool Party Ink. Two pieces of ⅛” Real Red Ribbon were then wrapped around the top of the panel and secured with Sellotape on the back. The stamped panel was then added with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The sentiment from the Star of Light stamp set was stamped in Real Red ink onto a scrap of Pool Party cardstock, the end was flagged with scissors and added to the card front with Tombow.

Festive jolly Santa jumper card

Christmas Sweaters featuring a Jolly Santa

I saw a fantastic video on Youtube recently by Brandy Cox, a fab American demonstrator, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOn6qnSxLpg showing some cards she had made using the quirky Christmas Sweaters stamp set. I loved them all but my favourite was the Santa jumper. Here is my take on it.

Seasonal sweater featuring Santa

www.crafty-rootes.com – Christmas Sweater by Stampin’ Up!

I stamped the jumper using Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock and die cut it out using the Stitched Shapes framelits and the Big Shot. I coloured the jumper in using an Old Olive marker, the hat with the Real Red Marker, Santa’s face with the Pink Pirouette Marker, Santa’s glasses with the Sahara Sand Marker and the ribbed area around the neck, cuffs and bottom of the jumper with the Soft Sky Marker.

I followed Brandy’s tip and covered the beard, moustache, eyebrows, rim of the hat and the pompom in Tombow Liquid Adhesive and spread it around using a cotton bud taking care to stay away from the stamped black edge. I then covered the image with Dazzling Diamonds Glitter and it looked fabulous, so sparkly. I added this piece to a scalloped square which had been die cut using the Layering Squares dies and Old Olive cardstock.

Winter Wonder embossing folder by Stampin' Up!

www.crafty-rootes.com – Christmas Sweater by Stampin’ Up!

I took a layer of Real Red cardstock and ran it through the Big Shot with the Winter Wonder embossing folder on the right hand side of the panel. I really love the effect this gives. I stamped the sentiment from the Merry Patterns stamp set in Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and punched it out using the Everyday Label punch. I punched again using a scrap of Old Olive cardstock and mounted the stamped piece on top and slightly offset so that the colour peeked out the bottom.

I added the sentiment to the lower left hand corner of the Real Red panel using Tombow Liquid Adhesive and added the Santa sweater image over the top using Stampin Dimensionals. The whole panel was then added to a Thick Whisper White card base using Tombow.

I love how sparkly and festive this card is, love it. Thanks for the inspiration Brandy.

Frozen Treats by Stampin' Up! bowl of Neopolitan ice-cream

Frozen Treats makes a bowl of Neapolitan ice-cream

Some friends and I were chatting over the weekend about things we remembered from our childhood and Neapolitan ice-cream came up – do you remember it? Luscious stripes of vanilla, strawberry and chocolate ice-cream, lovely. It was obviously still on my mind when I was playing with the Frozen Treats framelit dies today as this is what I came up with.

I started by die cutting a stitched edged square from Whisper White cardstock using the Stitched Shaped framelits. I then die cut the larger ice-cream scoop from So Saffron, Flirty Flamingo and Chocolate Chip cardstock and layered them onto the die cut Whisper White square using Tombow Liquid Adhesive.

Gorgeous bowl of Neopolitan ice-cream for a birthday

www.crafty-rootes.com – Neopolitan ice-cream sundae using Frozen Treats dies by Stampin’ Up!

I die cut the sundae dish from Pacific Point cardstock and added it to the Whisper White cardstock with Stampin’ Dimensionals giving the impression that the scoops of ice-cream were sitting in the bowl. I couldn’t resist die cutting the adorable spoon from a scrap of Silver Foil and the cherry from Real Red cardstock with a Chocolate Chip cardstock stalk.

I added the Whisper White square to a slightly layered square of Chocolate Chip cardstock before adding the whole piece to So Saffron scalloped square die cut using the Layering Squares framelits. I took a 1” strip of Flirty Flamingo cardstock and punched the ends using the Banner Triple punch and added this to a Thick Whisper White card base using Tombow Liquid Adhesive and added the topper panel over the top with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The sentiment came from the happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set and was stamped in Chocolate Chip ink. I used the co-ordinating Cool Treats stamp set to decorate the inside of the card and the front of the Whisper White envelope. Love this fun, colourful card. Hope you like it.

Pink sunflower in an offset frame

Framed Painted Harvest

I can’t seem to get enough of the fab Painted Harvest stamp set at the moment and have made a cute framed painted harvest card to share with you today.

I took a layer of Whisper White cardstock 5⅜” by 3⅝” and stamped the more solid flower image to the left of panel centre, using Pool Party ink. I added the second layer of stamping in Sweet Sugarplum ink on top, love this colour combo. The more filigree leaves were stamped using Smoky Slate ink. I had intended to stamp the flower centre in Smoky Slate as well but it appears that I hadn’t cleaned my block very well so it looks like the Crumb Cake ink I used on a previous project……..hate when that happens.

Painted Harvest sunflower anniversay card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Painted Harvest stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I took a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock and die cut the largest square from the Stitched Shapes Framelits and the slightly smaller square from the Layering Squares dies to create a frame. This is so easy to do as the dies nestle together so well and it is easier to run them through the Big Shot together.

Pink sunflower in an off set frame

I added Foam Adhesive strips to the back of the frame and added it partially over the flower image and tipped over. The sentiment from the Beautiful Bouquet stamp set was added just below in Sweet Sugarplum ink.

I added the finished panel to a layer of Smoky Slate cardstock then to a Pool Party card base. I stamped the flower again on a panel of Whisper White cardstock 5⅜” by 3⅝” and added it to the inside of the card using Tombow. Loving all these soft colours together. Hope you like them too.

Totally Trees – Thinking of You

October hasn’t been a great month for my family. One of my lovely uncles died after a long battle with cancer and the day before his funeral we were told another uncle and his younger son have also been diagnosed with this horrible disease. I wanted to send my uncle and cousin a message of support as they start their chemotherapy journeys.

I had recently seen a YouTube video by Jenny Hall (of jennystampsup.com) using the Painter’s Palette stamp set with the set called Sheltering Tree – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCuv7CyCeho – I decided to CASE (copy and share everything) the card using the Totally Trees stamp set which was still out on my table.

1-dscf8441I stamped the artist’s easel from the Painter’s Palette stamp set using Archival Basic Black ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock. A square of Very Vanilla, exactly the same size as the interior of the easel was die cut using the Layering Squares Framelit dies.

The trees were stamped in Soft Suede ink onto this small Very Vanilla panel. I added the autumnal leaves by stamping the tiny spray of leaves in Cherry Cobbler, Garden Green, Cajun Craze, Pumpkin Pie and Delightful Dijon inks. I added the ground at the base of the trees using 3rd generation Garden Green ink. The stamped panel was added to the easel using dimensionals.

1-dscf8442The sentiment comes from the Rose Wonder stamp set and was stamped using Archival Basic Black ink below the easel. The whole panel was added to a layer of Basic Black cardstock leaving a ⅛” border, then added to the Crumb Cake card base using Tombow adhesive.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. Hope you like the project I shared and that you will drop by again soon

Prehistoric Painter’s Palette

Here, as promised is another project using the fab Painter’s Palette stamp set. I can’t get enough of this set and decided to use the No Bones About It stamp set to create the picture in the frame. I stamped the easel image in Archival Basic Black ink onto a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock and used 2 of the new Layering Square Framelits to die cut the frame from the easel image. I die cut the frame again, from a panel of Whisper White cardstock using the same 2 layering dies, this time tilted for a more whimsical look.

The dinosaur straddles the background and central panel and is stamped in the new 2016 – 2018 in-colour, Flirty Flamingo. I added the bones to the front of the dinosaur on the inner panel. The leaves are stamped in Emerald Envy, another of the 2016 – 2018 in-colours. The die cut frame was added using the new thin Foam Adhesive Strips.

crafty-rootes.co.uk - Stampin Up - Painter's Palette and No Bones About It

The stamped panel was added to a piece of Emerald Envy cardstock after rounding the upper right hand corner. The whole topper was then added to a Thick Whisper White card base at an angle.

This would make a lovely birthday card for a child.

I am just loving this stamp set, so many ideas, so much fun. To get you’re your hands on it, check out my online shop – http://www2.stampinup.com/ECWeb/default.aspx – on the 1st June

Painter’s Palette Framed

I have to say I am really loving the new Painter’s Palette stamp set which will be available in the new Stampin Up catalogue which goes live on the 1st June.

Today, I decide to use the easel as a frame. I stamped the easel image in Archival Basic Black ink onto a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock, then used 2 of the new Layering Square Framelits to die cut the frame from the easel image.

crafty-rootes.co.uk - Stampin Up - Painter's Palette with Garden in Bloom

crafty-rootes.co.uk – Stampin Up – Painter’s Palette with Garden in Bloom

I die cut the frame again, from a panel of Whisper White cardstock using the same 2 layering dies. The die cut frame was removed before I stamped the 3 step flower from the Garden in Bloom stamp set overlapping both the centre panel and the main Whisper White panel.

crafty-rootes.co.uk - Stampin Up - Painter's Palette with Garden in Bloom

crafty-rootes.co.uk – Stampin Up – Painter’s Palette with Garden in Bloom

The outline image was stamped in Smoky Slate ink. The base layer is 2nd generation Sweet Sugarplum ink (ink the stamp then stamp off onto scrap paper before stamping it onto you panel). The top layer of the flower is 1st generation Sweet Sugarplum to give extra depth. I added the bee for a bit of fun.

crafty-rootes.co.uk - Stampin Up - Painter's Palette with Garden in Bloom

crafty-rootes.co.uk – Stampin Up – Painter’s Palette with Garden in Bloom

I rounded the upper right corner of a Sweet Sugarplum panel and the stamped Whisper White panel and adhered them together using Tombow Mono Multi adhesive. This panel was added to a Thick Whisper White card base again using Tombow. The die cut frame was added using the new thin Foam Adhesive Strips. These are strips are fab and are going to be amazing for creating shaker cards …….. now there’s a thought…..

I am just loving this stamp set, so many ideas, so much fun. To get you’re your hands on it, check out my online shop – http://www2.stampinup.com/ECWeb/default.aspx – on the 1st June

I love this card; it looks really classy and fun. Stop by to see what I come up with next. Have a good weekend.

Sneak Peak – Painter’s Palette

Happy days, my demonstrator pre-order box of goodies has arrived, whoop, whoop and let the fun begin.

1-DSCF7629The first thing I pulled out of the box was a stamp set called Painter’s Palette and I couldn’t wait to try it out. I really love the painter’s easel and have lots of ideas for using it.

1-DSCF7640

crafty-rootes.co.uk – Stampin Up Painter’s Palette in Dapper Denim

The first thing I did was stamp the easel onto a panel of Whisper White cardstock in Dapper Denim, one of the gorgeous new 2016 – 2018 in-colours. I used the new Layering Squares Framelits to die cut the inside of the easel then, stamped the die cut square using another new stamp set called Playful Backgrounds. This was one of the free sets I was given at Onstage last month.  I used 1st and 2nd generation stamping with Dapper Denim, rotating the stamp before stamping the 2nd time.  This gives a cool two tone effect.

crafty-rootes.co.uk - Stampin Up Painter's Palette in Dapper Denim

crafty-rootes.co.uk – Stampin Up Painter’s Palette in Dapper Denim

The small stamped square was then mounted I also stamped the sentiment from Butterfly Basics in Dapper denim. I rounded the bottom corners of the stamped panel and a panel of Dapper Denim and adhered the two panels together. The small stamped panel was then added to the easel using dimensionaIs. The whole panel was then mounted onto a Thick Whisper White card base.

For the second card the easel was stamped, directly, onto the Thick Whisper White card base, in Soft Suede ink. The inkpad really needs re-inking, the colour is faded and a little patchy but I decided I liked the look.

1-DSCF7642This time, I stamped the die cut inner square using another 2 of the new in-colours, Peekaboo Peach and Flirty Flamingo. These colours go so well together and I again used 1st and 2nd generation stamping. This panel was added to the front of the easel with dimensionals. The sentiment was stamped in Peekaboo Peach.

1-DSCF7643I have so many more ideas for this set, so stop by and see what I come up with. Hope to see you again soon.
