Custom Tee – makes great masculine cards

I have been making a very simple masculine birthday card today using the Custom Tee stamp set by Stampin’ Up! – this set is available in the Spring/Summer 2017 catalogue. I have also used the Designer Tee stamp set which co-ordinates with the Custom Tee set and is one of the options in the Sale-A- Bration brochure – you can choose one free item from this brochure for every £45 you spend until the end of March 2017.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin Up – Custom Tee stamp set

I stamped the larger T-shirt image from the Custom Tee stamp set using Pacific Point ink onto Whisper White cardstock. The sentiment from the Designer Tee stamp set was stamped using the same ink and the T-shirt was then die cut using the co-ordinating T-shirt Builder framelit dies.

I added the die cut piece to a panel of Whisper White cardstock using dimensionals and stamped the Happy Birthday (I love the font) from the Designer Tee stamp set beneath. I add a strip of Silver Foil Paper to either side of the Whisper White panel before layering it to the front of a Pacific Point card base.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Custom Tee stamp set

I decorated the envelope and the inside of the card using a smiley face stamp from the Hello stamp set, now retired – it was one of last year’s Sale-A-Bration choices.

I really like the uncluttered look of this card and I love the Pacific Point which is a colour I don’t often use.

A Whimsical Moon Baby

I have been itching to play with the Moon Baby Stamp set from Stampin’ Up! ever since I spotted it in the Spring/Summer catalogue. There are some really cute images in the set and I knew I would love colouring them in. Let me tell the set didn’t disappoint.

www.crafty-rootes.com- Moon Baby – Stampin’ Up!I started with a Shimmery White cardstock layer and stamped the gorgeous baby sleeping on the moon image using the Momento Tuxedo Black ink pad. I added the sentiment from the same stamp set in the right hand corner using the same ink pad and stamped a scattering of little stars around the baby image.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Moon Baby- Stampin’ Up!

I used an Aquapainter and the inkpads to watercolour the images opting for Delightful Dijon and Daffodil Delight for the moon and stars. Marina Mist for the babygro, Crumb Cake for the baby’s hair and Blushing Bride for his skin. I added some Gold Wink of Stella to some of the stars for a little extra shimmer.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Moon Baby – Stampin’ Up!

The stamped layer was added using Tombow liquid adhesive to a panel of Marina Mist cardstock which was then added to a Delightful Dijon layer. This whole topper was then added on dimensionals to a Thick Whisper White card base.

Love the card……..now I need to find someone having a baby boy that I can give it to.

Lift Me Up for a birthday

I have been making a birthday card today for a friend using the Lift Me Up stamp set from the new Spring/Summer catalogue. I wanted a very clean cut look using some sort of watercolouring technique. After a bit of trial and error this card is what I came up with.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Lift Me Up stamp set

I took acrylic block H and pressed it into a So Saffron inkpad making sure that it was well covered with the ink. I then spritzed the inky block lightly with a Stampin’ Spritzer filled with water. I stamped the inky, wet block onto a piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock leaving it for about 10 seconds to allow the ink to soak into the cardstock. I left the panel for 10 minutes to dry, it was too dark. So I sprayed the acrylic block with water again, luckily I hadn’t cleaned it, and stamped it down onto another Thick Whisper White panel and left it to dry.  This was much better.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Lift Me Up Stamp set – Stampin’ Up!

The medium balloon was then stamped in Chocolate Chip ink onto Whisper White cardstock and die cut using a Big Shot and the co-ordinating Up & Away Framelit Dies. The smallest balloon was stamped in Perfect Plum and Melon Mambo and die cut using the smallest balloons from the same die set. The sentiment from the Designer Tee stamp set – 1 of the Sale-A-Bration items available until 31st March with a £45 order – was stamped in Chocolate Chip ink. The whole panel was added to a piece of Chocolate Chip cardstock with Tombow Liquid Adhesive. This piece was then added to a Thick Whisper White panel using Dimensionals.

Avant Garden for a birthday

I needed to make a birthday card today for a friend. She loves her garden and delicate flowers in particular so I found myself reaching for the Sale-A-Bration stamp set, Avant Garden as one of the images in the set is a really pretty sprig of flowers which she will love,

www.crafty-rootes.com – Avant Garden – Stampin’ Up!

I stamped the image twice onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock using Momento Tuxedo Black ink and coloured them in with the Melon Mambo, Old Olive and Early Espresso Watercolor Pencils and a Blender Pen. I love these pencils so much and am definitely reaching for them more and more often.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Avant Garden- Stampin’ Up!

I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment from the Designer Tee stamp set, which is also a Sale-A-Bration choice using Melon Mambo ink. I used the Project Life Corner Rounder Punch to round the top right and bottom left corners of the stamped piece. I wrapped a length of the Solid Whisper White Baker’s Twine  3 times around the bottom of the panel and tied in a bow. I added the whole piece using Tombow Liquid Adhesive to a panel of Melon Mambo cardstock with similarly rounded corners. The whole topper was then added to a Thick Whisper White card base using Dimensionals. To finish the card off I added some Wink of Stella to the flowers……….love a bit of sparkle.

I really hope my friend likes her card. Thank you for visiting my blog today and I hope you will come again soon.

If you don’t know about Sale-A-Bration…………where have you been!!!! Basically until the 31st March 2017 you can choose 1 item from the brochure for every £45 order, so for a £90 order you can choose 2 items from the 10 on offer and rumour has it more items will be added in mid Feb.

Lift Me Up for January Classes

Last week’s classes saw us using the lovely Lift Me Up stamp set with the co-ordinating Up & Away thinlet dies to make 3 cards.  I wanted to combine the stamps and dies from the Spring/Summer catalogue with the Carried Away Designer Series Paper (dsp) found in the Sale-A-Bration brochure. I cut the 12” x 12” papers down to 6”x 6” stacks – 8 stacks from each pack of dsp, each stack containing 6 double sided sheets – and gave each of my ladies a pack to use in the class. What they didn’t use they took home to add to their stash.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Carried Away dsp – Sale-A-Bration

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Lift Me Up stamp set, Up & Away thinlit dies and Carried Away dsp

I chose the ink colours to match the dsp – Night of Navy, Smoky Slate, Watermelon Wonder, Peakaboo Peach and Mint Macaron.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Lift Me Up stamp set, Up & Away thinlit dies and Carried Away dsp

The first card was very straight forward and involved stamping the smallest balloon randomly onto a strip of Whisper White cardstock in 4 of the colours. The ladies then chose a patterned paper to add behind the stamped panel using Tombow Liquid Adhesive. The whole piece was then layered onto a Smoky Slate cardbase using Dimensionals. Simple but very effective.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Lift Me Up stamp set, Up & Away thinlit dies and Carried Away dsp

The second card was CASE’d from the amazing Australian demonstrator Kylie Bertucci. Kylie made this card using all of the dsp options from the Carried Away dsp and you can see them all by following this Youtube link – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6d3w  – she starts showing the cards about 15 mins in. My ladies enjoyed having the chance to select their own dsp for this card. We decided that this card would make a great Valentine card as many of our menfolk don’t appreciate the hearts and flowers, lovey dovey type cards………

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Lift Me Up stamp set, Up & Away thinlit dies and Carried Away dsp

The last card involved using the Sponge Brayers, a first for many of the ladies who come to my classes. The brayers are super easy to use and each pack contains 4 sponges and 2 handles. After using each sponge you take it off the handle, removed the plastic centre and run it under warm water until the water runs clear and then leave them to air dry. The sponges will become stained but this doesn’t affect them at all.

We used the Peakaboo Peach, Watermelon Wonder and Night of Navy ink pads to colour the background Whisper White panel. The panel initially looks quite mottled but evens out as the ink soaks into the cardstock and dries. The beautiful intricate balloon was die cut from Basic Black cardstock and we die cut some of the dsp to add behind the balloon. The starry night was made using a white gel pen. The whole panel was added to a Thick Whisper White card base.

To purchase any of these products or to join my team please click the Shop Online button at the top of this page.

I hope you like these projects as much as the ladies who came to the January classes did. Thank you for visiting my blog and come again soon.

Tasty Trucks – Second Time Out

I used the lovely Tasty Trucks stamp set from Stampin’ Up! again today, love this set and you can choose it for free with a £45 order. For more info follow the link to my shop.

I stamped the truck onto a Whisper White cardstock panel using Momento Tuxedo Black ink as I planned to watercolour the stamped image. Many people don’t realise how versatile these ink pads are – by squeezing the top and bottom of the ink pad between your thumb and fingers you get a pool of ink in the top of the ink pad and that can be used with an Aquapainter, Blender Pen or brush to colour in a project.

For a step by step guide to this technique, as shown in Diana Carr’s picture below, check out this link to her blog – The Secret Life of Paper – http://secretlifeofpaper.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/watercoloring-with-stampin-up-ink-pads.html

I opted to use Peakaboo Peach, Cucumber Crush, Daffodil Delight and Chocolate Chip ink pads for this project and a Blender Pen to watercolour the image with.

www. crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Tasty Trucks stamp set

I added the watercoloured panel to a layer of Chocolate Chip cardstock. I Stamped the bottom of a piece of Peakaboo Peach cardstock with the sweet little cupcake from the stamp set using the Peakaboo Peach ink pad, added strips of Daffodil Delight and Cucumber Crush cardstock and layered the watercoloured piece on top. This whole panel was added to a piece of Whisper White cardstock before being attached to the Chocolate Chip card base.

wwww.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Tasty Trucks stamp set

I added a layer of Whisper White cardstock to the inside of the card as the Chocolate Chip is too dark to write on. I added the truck driving in from the left as a cheeky little touch and followed up by stamping a partial truck on either side of the Whisper White envelope.

Custom Tee used for a thank you card

The Custom Tee stamp set with its co-ordinating T-Shirt Builder Framelit Dies was one of the first bundles that caught my eye in the new Spring/Summer catalogue. I have 2 runners in the family and a daughter who is sport mad and this is such a versatile set for sports fans and so much more.  It would make great hen party invites.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Custom Tee stamp set and T-shirt Builder diesI chose a Crumb Cake card base for today’s card. I stamped the girly style T-shirt onto 3 different patterned pieces all from the Sending Love 6” x 6” designer paper stack. The colour palette for this paper stack is Real Red and Whisper White and although the set is ‘Valentine’ themed, the papers can be used for lots of other occasions.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Custom Tee stamp set and T-Shirt Builder diesThe T-shirts were stamped in Momento Tuxedo Black ink and die cut using the T-Shirt Builder Framelit Dies. I inked around the edges with a Sponge Dauber and the Momento Tuxedo Black ink. I mounted the 2 paler T-shirts onto a strip of Whisper White cardstock using Tombow Liquid Adhesive, one at either end. The darker T-shirt was mounted in the middle using Dimensionals.

I added a strip of Real Red cardstock at the top and bottom of the Whisper White panel. The Basic Black cardstock strip was added to hide a booboo with the Tombow!!! Luckily I really liked how it looked. There is almost always something you can do to cover a mistake…….ask me how I know………

I stamped the sentiment from the Thankful Thoughts stamp set in Momento Tuxedo Black ink and adhered the Whisper White cardstock panel to the card base using Dimensionals.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’Up! – Custom Tee stamp set

For the inside of the card I stamped a Whisper White panel with the T-shirt image and added some of the tiny flowers included in the set, using Real Red ink. I stamped the same image onto the envelope to complete the project.

I am really happy with how the card looks. Clean, simple and very effective. Thank you so much for visiting my blog. Please drop in again soon.

Tasty Trucks

Today I have been using the Tasty Trucks stamp set from the Stampin’ Up! Sale-A-Bration brochure which went live on the 4th January 2017. Sale-A-Bration is Stampin’ Up! annual event where for every £45 order you get to choose 1 item from the Sale-A-Bration brochure for free…..whoop whoop. There are lots of gorgeous things to choose from including stamp sets, ribbon, designer series paper packs (dsp), a card project kit and a gorgeous gold and white striped card storage tin which I have my eye on. Sale-A-Bration runs from the 4th January until the 31st March 2017 so there is plenty of time to get an order in.If you would like a Sale-A-Bration brochure or Spring/Summer catalogue let me know. If you would like to place an order click on the Shop Online button and it will take you to my online store.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Stampin’ Up! – Tasty Trucks stamp setI stamped the really cute little truck from the Tasty Truck stamp set using Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock. I planned to use the new Stampin’ Up! Water Color Pencils to colour in the truck and find that the Momento ink stands up well to the Blender Pen. I used the Bermuda Bay and Daffodil Delight pencils to colour the main body of the truck. The wheels were coloured using the Basic Black pencil and the Basic Grey pencil for the hub caps. I coloured the lights using the Pumpkin Pie pencil and the stripes in the awning are coloured using the Real Red pencil. The ground was added with the Early Espresso pencil.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Gorgeous truck using the Tasty Trucks stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I love the versatility of these watercolour pencils. The harder you press the dark the finished effect will be. This means that you can get many tones of colour using each pencil. I used the Blender pen on this occasion as the image is quite small and I wanted more control than I would get using an Aquapainter or brush.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Tasty Trucks by Stampin’ Up!

I rounded the upper right corner with the Project Life Corner Rounder and mounted the coloured piece onto a panel of Bermuda Bay cardstock with a similarly rounded top right corner. I then took a strip of Bermuda Bay cardstock and ran it through the Big Shot using the new Hexagons Dynamic Textured Impressions Folder from Stampin’ Up! which is available in the in the new Spring/Summer catalogue.

I used a card base of Thick Whisper White cardstock adding some So Saffron stars using the Hearts and Stars decorative masks and a Sponge Dauber to provide some interest. The embossed strip of Bermuda Bay was added to the card front with Tombow Liquid Adhesive and the stamped panel added using Dimensionals.

I have a feeling that this little truck is going to prove very popular over the next few months. Thank you for visiting my blog today. Hope to see you again soon.

Watercolor Pencil storage idea

I love the new Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Pencils which will be available in the Spring Summer catalogue from tomorrow, the 4th January 2107. These gorgeous pencils can be used with ordinary brushes, Aquapainters and Blender Pens and are going to be a really versatile addition to our colouring tools.

www.crafty-rootes.com – watercolor Pencil storage – Stampin’ Up!

The colours are all Stampin’ Up! colours and match the ink pads, markers, cardstock etc that we already have. Included in this set are Real Red, Calypso Coral, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Bermuda Bay, Pacific Point, Rich Razzleberry, Melon Mambo, Early Espresso, Basic Grey, Basic Black and Whisper White.

www.crafty-rootes.com – watercolor Pencil storage – Stampin’ Up!

The set of pencils come in a cardstock box but I wanted to be able to see the colour of the pencil I was pulling out so decided to transfer them to a Standard Stamp Case. This has the added benefit of having enough room to store a Blender Pen and pencil sharpener in the same box. All ready for colouring on the go. I cut down the original box and saved the colour index slipping it inside the clear cover of the storage case.

www.crafty-rootes.com – watercolor Pencil storage – Stampin’ Up!

These are such useful boxes and come in a pack of 4. I use them to store Enamel Shapes, Dimensionals, Basic Pearls and Rhinestones amongst other things.

Hope you find this tip useful. Thank you for visiting my blog today and I hope to see you soon.
