Scraps of alcohol inked vellum used to make a pretty double butterfly themed card using the Brilliant Wings dies

Double Butterfly card

Today I have made a pretty double butterfly card made using alcohol inked vellum left over from my class projects last month (see the post on the 17th September 2021).

Colours used in this project are:

To recreate the double butterfly card, you will need:

Magenta Madness card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛” – rounded upper right corner
Daffodil Delight card – 5 ½” by 3 ¾” – rounded upper right corner
Basic White card – 5⅜” by 3⅝” – rounded upper right corner
Basic White card – 5 ½” by 3 ¾” – rounded upper right corner – for the inside
Vellum – big enough to die cut your butterflies

I used Magenta Madness, Dark Pumpkin Pie and Dark Daffodil Delight Blends Alcohol Markers to scribble blocks of colour all over the Vellum taking care not to overlap the colours which would contaminate the lighter colour nibs.

Scraps of alcohol inked vellum used to make a pretty double butterfly themed card using the Brilliant Wings dies

www.crafty-rootes.co.uk – A pretty double butterfly themed card made using scraps of Vellum which had been inked with alcohol

Using a pipette filled with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and smacked it against a Bone Folder to spray small dots of alcohol all over the Vellum. This allows the ink to start spreading. The Vellum piece was then set aside to dry.

www.crafty-rootes.co.uk – A pretty double butterfly themed card made using scraps of Vellum which had been inked with alcohol

Using second generation Smoky Slate ink I stamped one of the rectangle images from the Watercolor Shapes stamp set in the centre of the smaller Basic White panel. The dotty image was stamped in full strength Smoky Slate randomly across the stamped rectangle.

www.crafty-rootes.co.uk – A pretty double butterfly themed card made using scraps of Vellum which had been inked with alcohol

Taking the dry vellum panel and the Brilliant Wings Dies I die cut 2 butterflies. Vellum can be tricky to die cut with a detailed die and I find placing the die, cutting side up gives me the best cut. I used the Take Your Pick Die Brush to get out the fiddly pieces.

Beauty of Friendship fun fold card

Here is a Beauty of Friendship fun fold card made for my daughter Camilla’s birthday. I saw LeeAnn Greff, a fellow demonstrator, demonstrate it on YouTube and I knew this was the perfect card for her as she loves the outdoors. I changed the dimensions to fit A4 card stock and also some of the colours.

Colours used in this project are:

To recreate the beauty of friendship card, you will need:

Soft Succulent card – 6½“ by 5⅞” – scored at 4⅛” on the long side
Soft Succulent card – 3½” by 3” scored at ½” on the short side
Basic White card – 5⅝” by 3⅞”
Basic White card – 5⅝” by 2¼”
Basic White card – 3⅜” by 2½”
Soft Succulent card – 3” by 2½”
Basic White 2¼” by 2”
Scrap of Balmy Blue

I took the 2 scored pieces Soft Succulent, laid them on my work surface with the smaller panel on the right-hand side. Using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive, I adhered the ½” tab of the smaller piece to the larger panel.  You should then have a gate fold type card with a long thin left panel and a shorter, wider right-hand panel.

I place the 3 largest panels of Basic White card stock onto my work surface. I punched a circle from a Post It Note using the ¾” Circle Punch and placed it in the upper left-hand corner of the smallest panel.

Using a Blending Brush I added Soft Sea Foam ink to all three of the panels. The ink was added gradually in circular motions, building up the colour slowly. I then added Soft Succulent ink around the edges of each panel in the same way.

The bare trees were then stamped in Soft Suede ink, 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation to give the effect of depth.

I added the ‘tree canopy’ image to the stamped full-strength tree on the smallest panel. I used the soft succulent ink and the spotty image to add some texture to all the panels

.

The stamped panels were then glued to the Soft Succulent card. The largest one on the inside, covering the ½” tab which holds them together.

Using the Stitched So Sweetly Dies and my Mini Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine I cut a label from the remaining Soft Succulent piece and a smaller label from the Basic White piece.

The sentiment from the Hey Birthday Chick stamp set was stamped on the white label in Soft Succulent ink and I added a couple of small flowers in the same ink. The flowers were from the Flowers of Friendship stamp set.

The labels were then glued together. They were added to the left-hand panel of the card with a couple of Dimensionals. Make sure that the Dimensionals are well over to the left and that the right-hand panel of the card can tuck under.

To complete the card, I die cut 2 of the sweet little birds from the Beautiful Trees dies from scrap Balmy Blue card and added them to the card front. I used a Black Stampin’ Write Marker to add their eyes and a trio of Genial Gems.

I absolutely love this card, thank you LeeAnn for the inspiration.

Watercolor Shapes for the Color Combo Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to the June 2021 Colour Combo blog hop – this month our colours are Polished Pink, Poppy Parade and Soft Sea Foam. I have chosen the Watercolor Shapes stamp set to make my card.

To recreate the Watercolor shapes card, you will need:

Soft Sea Foam card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛” – rounded upper left corner
Polished Pink card – 5¼” by 3¼” – rounded upper left corner
Basic Black card – 4⅞” by 2⅞” – rounded upper left corner
Basic White card – 4¾” by 2¾” – rounded upper left corner
Basic Black card – 2½” by 1⅜”
Basic White card – 2⅜” by 1¼”
Basic White card – 5½” by 3¾” – rounded upper left corner for the inside

I have been playing around with the Watercolor Shapes stamp set this week and have decided to use it for todays color challenge.

I chose to use the 2 rectangular images and the square image and began by stamping the largest image in Soft Sea Foam. I stamped randomly all over the smallest Basic White panel.

I added the thinner rectangle in Polished Pink ink and finished with the square stamped in Poppy Parade ink. I deliberately over-lapped the images and colors. Don’t they work well together. The stamped panel was added to the Basic Black layer with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive. I wrapped a length of Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon around the layer, securing it on the back with Sellotape and then glued it to the Polished Pink panel.

Using the Stamparatus I inked up the large birthday sentiment from the Biggest Wishes stamp set in Soft Sea Foam ink and stamped it onto the small panel of Basic White card. I added the scripty ‘happy’ in Poppy Parade ink. The sentiment was then added to the card base on Dimensionals.

I added a bow in the same ribbon with a Mini Glue Dot and a trio of Red Rhinestones to complete the card.
