Quirky Sweater Christmas card

Quirky Christmas Sweaters for a fun winter/holiday card

Use the quirky Christmas Sweaters stamp set to make fun, modern looking Christmas cards.

Quirky, modern Christmas card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Christmas Sweaters by Stampin’ Up

For today’s project I stamped one of the sweaters from the Christmas Sweater stamp set onto Whisper White cardstock using Momento Tuxedo Black ink. I carefully coloured alternate stripes of the sweater using the brush end of the Berry Burst Marker. After a bit of trial and error I found it best to brush the colour on in one direction rather than going backwards and forwards, you get a less streaky finish.

Christmas Jumper card

The image was then die cut using the Big Shot and the largest circle from the Stitched Shapes framelit dies. I added the stitched circle using Tombow Liquid Adhesive to a large scallop circle which was die cut from Lemon Lime Twist cardstock using the Layering Circle framelit dies.

I took a panel of Whisper White cardstock 5⅞” by 3⅝” and wrapped a length of ½” Finely Woven Berry Burst Ribbon about a third of the way down the panel, adhering it to the back with sellotape and added the circle topper piece over the top using Stampin’ Dimensionals. The sentiment was then stamped below the sweater using Lemon Lime Twist ink. The whole panel was then added to a Thick Whisper White card base using Tombow Liquid Adhesive.

I absolutely love the Lemon Lime Twist/Berry Burst colour combination. Hope you like this project.

Framed Painted Harvest

I can’t seem to get enough of the fab Painted Harvest stamp set at the moment and have made a cute framed painted harvest card to share with you today.

I took a layer of Whisper White cardstock 5⅜” by 3⅝” and stamped the more solid flower image to the left of panel centre, using Pool Party ink. I added the second layer of stamping in Sweet Sugarplum ink on top, love this colour combo. The more filigree leaves were stamped using Smoky Slate ink. I had intended to stamp the flower centre in Smoky Slate as well but it appears that I hadn’t cleaned my block very well so it looks like the Crumb Cake ink I used on a previous project……..hate when that happens.

Painted Harvest sunflower anniversay card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Painted Harvest stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I took a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock and die cut the largest square from the Stitched Shapes Framelits and the slightly smaller square from the Layering Squares dies to create a frame. This is so easy to do as the dies nestle together so well and it is easier to run them through the Big Shot together.

Pink sunflower in an off set frame

www.crafty-rootes.com – Painted Harvest stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I added Foam Adhesive strips to the back of the frame and added it partially over the flower image and tipped over. The sentiment from the Beautiful Bouquet stamp set was added just below in Sweet Sugarplum ink.

I added the finished panel to a layer of Smoky Slate cardstock then to a Pool Party card base. I stamped the flower again on a panel of Whisper White cardstock 5⅜” by 3⅝” and added it to the inside of the card using Tombow. Loving all these soft colours together. Hope you like them too.

Night In Bethlehem given a fun fold

Christmas fun fold card using Night in Bethlehem stamp set and co-ordinating dies.

Loving my first play with the new Night In Bethlehem stamp set and co-ordinating Bethlehem Edgelit dies. This set is going to be so much fun to use, lots of fab ideas buzzing around in my head.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Night In Bethlehem stamp set and Bethlehem Edgelits by Stampin’ Up!

I decided to make a Flip Corner Card to show off this stamp set and started with a piece of Sahara Sand cardstock 8¼” by 5⅞”. I scored and folded at 4⅛” then insert the front of the card base into your Paper Trimmer, short side at the top and line up on the left hand side at 7.5cm. Lift up the clear cutting guard and bring the cutting blade down to 7.5cm. Lower the blade and cut upwards, stopping at 1.5cm.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Night In Bethlehem stamp set and Bethlehem Edgelits by Stampin’ Up!

Rotate the cardstock 90° clockwise then flip the card so the inside is uppermost and the cut line is on the left hand panel. Line the left hand edge up with the 7.5cm mark and the cutting blade at 7.5cm and cut upwards stopping at 1.5cm.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Night In Bethlehem stamp set and Bethlehem Edgelits by Stampin’ Up!

Line both the 1.5cm points up with the cutting groove and score from the edge of the cardstock to the 1.5cm point on both sides. Gently fold on these score lines. The ‘square’ should now be flipped over in front. Glue in place with Tombow Liquid adhesive.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Night In Bethlehem stamp set and Bethlehem Edgelits by Stampin’ Up!

Next I die cut the squares using the Layering Squares Framelit Dies as follows: the 2nd largest from Gold Foil cardstock, the 3rd largest from Basic Black cardstock and the 4th largest from Whisper White cardstock. I die cut the star from the Bethlehem Edgelit dies from the centre of the gold foil square.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Night In Bethlehem stamp set with Bethlehem Edgelit dies

I stamped the row of buildings in 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation Sahara Sand ink onto the small Whisper White square and along the bottom of the card front with the 1st generation Sahara Sand ink. I then adhered the Whisper White square to the Basic Black square and then onto the Gold Foil square using Tombow Liquid Adhesive. I added the die cut Gold Foil star to the upper right hand corner of the stamped panel.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Night In Bethlehem stamp set and Bethlehem Edgelits by Stampin’ Up!

Before adding the layered squares to the flipped corner I adhered the 5” by ⅛” strip across the diagonal folded edge with Tombow, and then trimmed off the overhanging pieces. I just felt that the fold needed some definition.  The square topper was then added to the flipped over square using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I stamped the ‘Mary and Joseph’ using Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto scrap Sahara Sand cardstock and die cut before adding to the bottom left hand corner of the card front using Tombow.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Night In Bethlehem stamp set and Bethlehem Edgelits by Stampin’ Up!

The ‘shepherd’ image was stamped onto the lower right hand corner of a Whisper White 5½” by 3¾” panel using Momento Tuxedo Black ink and this panel was then adhered to a layer of Basic Black 5¾” by 4” using Tombow and added to the inside of the card.

Again using Momento Tuxedo Black ink I stamped the ‘Mary and Joseph’ image onto the front of a Whisper White envelope.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Night In Bethlehem stamp set and Bethlehem Edgelits by Stampin’ Up!

I was really happy with the look of this card. Hope you like it.

Feeling Autumnal with Lovely as a Tree

Isn’t it typical? It has been cold and wet most of the summer and as soon as I come up with a definitely autumnal card, using the fabulous Lovely As A Tree stamp set, out comes the sun and it turns lovely and hot. If I’d known that sooner……….

www.crafty-rootes.com – Lovely As a Tree stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I took a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock 2¾” by 2¾”, inked up the top of the tree using the So Saffron ink pad. I then took the Cajun Craze, Old Olive, Garden Green and Early Espresso Markers and added colour to the canopy of the tree using the ‘thumping technique’.  Basically you hold the marker on its side between your thumb and middle finger and thump the brush end randomly down adding spots of colour.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Lovely As a Tree stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I used the Early Espresso Marker to colour in the trunk of the tree. When I had finished adding colour I huffed on the stamp to re-moisten the ink and stamped it down. Love the effect this technique gives, simple but gorgeous. I die cut the tree using the largest circle from the Stitched Shapes Dies and layered it, using Tombow Liquid Adhesive, onto an Early Espresso scalloped circle die cut using the largest scalloped die from the Layered Circle Framelits.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Lovely As a Tree stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I took a Crumb Cake card base and stamped the oak leaf image around the edge using Crumb Cake ink. I ran a panel of Crumb Cake cardstock through the Big Shot with the Seaside embossing folder (meant to use the woodgrain folder but didn’t notice that I’d got the wrong one until later!!!!) and added it to the right side of the card base using Tombow Liquid Adhesive, leaving an even border around three sides.

I stamped the sentiment from the Eastern Beauty stamp set in Early Espresso ink onto a scrap strip of So Saffron cardstock. I adhered this to the front of the embossed panel using Tombow and added thin strips of Cajun Craze and Old Olive cardstock either side of the sentiment piece.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Lovely As a Tree stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

The stamped circle was added to the front of the card, overhanging the right hand side, using Stampin’ Dimensionals. The overhanging portion was then trimmed off using Scissors.

Dragonfly Dreams for a colourful wedding

Everyone in my house is so looking forward to this weekend as we are all going to a wedding………… yay…….love a wedding and this one is extra special as we have all known the bride since she was a toddler, she and her brother and sister grew up with my 2 children and her parents are really great friends of ours and ……….the wedding is in the village so we can walk……..how much better can it get!

The bride loves bright colours so I decided to take advantage of that for her and her fiancé’s wedding card.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits and Dragonfly Dreams stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I knew I wanted to use Whisper White cardstock (5⅜” by 3⅝”) and the new Ruffled Dynamic Textured Impressions folder as a background. I die cut the detailed dragonfly from the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits from the centre of a panel of Lemon Lime Twist cardstock 5 ½” by 3 ¾” before using the panel to back the embossed Whisper White piece. I wrapped a piece of ½” Berry Burst Finely Woven Ribbon around the lower end of the panel and tied it in a bow.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits and Dragonfly Dreams stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I covered the Lemon Lime Twist dragonfly with a coating of Clear Wink of Stella, love a bit of shimmer, before adding the dragonfly to the embossed piece using Tombow Liquid Adhesive. The sentiment from the Rose Wonder stamp set was stamped in Berry Burst ink onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and punched out using the 1½” Circle Punch. I used the 1¾” inch Circle Punch to cut a Berry Burst circle to layer on the back. I added it over the ribbon using Stampin’ Dimensionals. The whole panel was added to a Berry Burst card base.

A Pink Painted Harvest

I had the gorgeous new Painted Harvest stamp set on my desk today working on projects for September’s Classes.  After designing my 3 class projects I found I had a left over layer of Pear Pizzazz with some stamping down the side. I decided to use this layer as a jumping off point for another project.

I decided on a colour palette of Pink Pirouette, Rose Red, Crumb Cake and Always Artichoke in addition to the Pear Pizzazz 5⅜” by 3⅝” panel I already had. I began by adding the Pear Pizzazz panel to a layer of Whisper White cardstock 5½” by 3¾” using Tombow Liquid Adhesive.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Painted Harvest stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I die cut the largest oval from the Stitched Shapes Framelit dies using Whisper White cardstock and backed it with a scalloped oval, die cut using the Layered Oval dies in Basic Black cardstock. I added the oval to the Pear Pizzazz stamped panel using Tombow Liquid Adhesive.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Painted Harvest stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

On a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock I stamped the 1st layer of the flower in Pink Pirouette and added the second layer in Rose Red, love this colour combination. I added a flower centre in Crumb Cake ink and then fussy cut the flower using the lovely sharp Stampin’ Up! paper snips.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Painted Harvest stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I stamped the leaves in Always Artichoke ink onto Pear Pizzazz cardstock and punched them out using the co-ordinating Leaf Punch, these are the same colours I used when stamping the leaves down the side of the original panel. I added the punched leaves to the back of the die cut flower before adding the flower to the bottom right of the oval using Stampin’ Dimensionals. I added the whole piece to a Pink Pirouette card base.

I really like the colour combination of this card, so fresh and pretty.

New Home In The City

One of my lovely team mates moved house earlier this month and this is the card I made for her using the oh so versatile In The City stamp set.

I took a piece of Whisper White cardstock 5¼” by 3½” and stamped a variety of the sweet little houses just below the mid line of the panel using Momento Tuxedo Black ink. I interspersed the houses with a few trees and added a cobbled road in front of the houses using Crumb Cake ink.

www.carafty-rootes.com – In The City stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I then took the panel to the Big Shot and cut a circle using one of the Layering Circle dies from the middle of the stamped scene. Using the infill stamp for each house I coloured only the parts in the die cut circle, this is called the spotlight technique, using Pink Pirouette, Soft Sky and Wisteria Wonder. The roof and doors were stamped with Crumb Cake ink and Smoky Slate ink. I stamped an extra tree on a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and fussy cut the top part after stamping it using Pear Pizzazz ink. I added the top of the tree using a Stampin’ Dimensional.

www.carafty-rootes.com – In The City stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I die cut a slightly larger circle using the Layering Circle dies from the centre of a layer of Soft Sky cardstock 5⅜” by 3⅝” then used this layer to back the large stamped Whisper White panel using Tombow Liquid Adhesive. This whole panel was then added to a Pear Pizzazz card base again using Tombow Liquid Adhesive.

www.carafty-rootes.com – In The City stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I added Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of the die cut circle piece and laid it into the die cut hole. Love the look of this technique and it works so well with this stamp set.

Filigree Leaf from Seasonal Layers Framelits

Today I am sharing a clean and simple thinking of you card made using the Seasonal Layers framelit dies.

I started with a small piece of Whisper White cardstock which I die cut using one of the squares from the Stitched Shapes framelit dies and my Big Shot. Using an Aquapainter and my Lemon Lime Twist ink pad I added a light wash of Lemon Lime Twist to the die cut square being careful not to add too much water. I concentrated the colour at the bottom and let it go lighter as it neared the top.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Seasonal Layers dies by Stampin’ Up!

Whilst the watercolour layer dried I die cut the beautiful filigree leaf from a scrap of Chocolate Chip cardstock. Next, I mounted the Whisper White watercoloured panel to a square of Lemon Lime Twist cardstock and added the die cut leaf using Tombow Liquid Adhesive. Taking 5 six inch lengths of Copper Metallic Thread I tied a multi-loop bow and added it to the base of the leaf near the stem with a Mini Glue Dot. I added a Glitter  Enamel dot to disguise the knot of the bow.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Seasonal Layers Thinlit dies by Stampin’ Up!

I placed the completed topper onto a card base of Thick Whisper White and stamped the sentiment form the Colorful Seasons stamp set using Chocolate Chip ink. I then added Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of the square piece and added it above the sentiment.

Such a simple card but so effective. Hope you like it.

Happy Birthday Gorgeous for August Classes

I really enjoyed the classes this week where we used the aptly named Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set. This is an incredibly versatile set with lots of lovely sentiment options.

www,crafty-rootes.com – happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

Our first card was masculine themed as these are cards my ladies struggle to make, it would also make a lovely card for a teenager. Using scrap Whisper White cardstock we stamped the spotty balloon image using Fresh Fig ink, Tranquil Tide ink and Lemon Lime Twist ink, about 5 – 6 balloon was enough. We then stamped the Hooray balloon from the same set in Fresh Fig ink and punched all the balloons out using the Balloon Bouquet Punch. We laid the balloons out on a panel of Whisper White cardstock, 4⅛” by 2” to get an idea of placement. We glued the first 3 balloons directly to the Whisper White panel using Tombow Liquid Adhesive and added the remaining balloons on Stampin’ Dimensionals. We stamped the curly balloon strings under the popped up balloons. The sentiment was stamped in Tranquil Tide ink onto a thin strip of Lemon Lime Twist cardstock. We stamped the spotty balloon onto the Tranquil Tide card base using Tranquil Tide ink for a subtle tone on tone background. We punched a border strip in Fresh Fig card using the Ticket Border Punch and added it to the left side of the Whisper White panel with Tombow Liquid Adhesive. The whole decorated panel was then added to the card base using Tombow Liquid Adhesive and the sentiment strip was added on Stampin’ Dimensionals. We added a few Iridescent Sequins to catch the light. Love this card and so did the ladies.

www.crafty-rootes.com – happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

The second card was a very girly. We took a piece of Whisper White cardstock 5⅜” by 3⅝” and placed a Stitched Shape Circle Framelit die towards the top on the right had side with a small portion of the die hanging over the side and ran it through the Big Shot. We then started to stamp around the die cut circle edge starting with the biggest images and working down to the smallest images to fill in the space. We punched a strip of Lemon Lime Twist cardstock using the Ticket Border Punch and added it to the stamped layer with Tombow Liquid Adhesive, the whole panel was adhered to a Fresh Fig card base against the right hand edge. The stitched circle was added to a Berry Burst Scalloped Circle, cut using the Layering Circle dies with Tombow and added to the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals, the overhanging edge was then trimmed off. To finish off the card we added a scattering of Iridescent Sequins. Such a pretty card.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

The final card looks complicated but is actually pretty easy. We started with a piece of Whisper White cardstock 3½” by 3⅛” and coloured it in with Sponge Daubers using Tranquil Tide, Powder Pink, Berry Burst, Lemon Lime Twist and Berry Burst inks. This panel was then die cut using the Happy Birthday Thinlit die, we used the die again to cut out a second Happy Birthday from a layer of Basic Black cardstock 5½” by 3⅝”. A layer of Whisper White 5⅜” by 3⅝” was then glued to the Basic Black layer using Tombow Liquid Adhesive and no-one will ever know there is something cut out of it. The whole panel was then added to a Lemon Lime Twist card base. The coloured die cut sentiment was then glued to the Basic Black version using Tombow Liquid Adhesive, slightly offsetting it to give a shadow effect, gorgeous. The piece was then added with Tombow to the card front and a scattering of Iridescent Sequins (can’t get enough of these) was added. Another great card.

Masculine Birthday card featuring the pens from Crafting Forever

I needed a birthday card this week for a male friend and decided the Crafting Forever stamp set would make a great card for him.

I took a panel of Whisper White cardstock 5 by 3” and stamped the 3 pen image across the panel using Archival Basic Black ink. I wanted to keep this card very simple and decided I would only add colour to the flowery pens and I choose the Berry Burst, Lemon Lime Twist, Bermuda Bay and Calypso Coral Marker Pens to add some shading. I added a thin strip of Basic Black cardstock to the bottom edge of the stamped piece to give some definition to the panel.

I stamped the sentiment from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set using the Bermuda Bay ink pad onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and trimmed it out using my Scissors. I repeated the thin rim of Basic Black cardstock. I stuck the sentiment to the back of the large stamped panel using Tombow Liquid Adhesive.

www.crafty-rootes.com – Crafting Forever stamp set by Stampin’ Up

I added the whole stamped piece to a Bermuda Bay card base using Stampin’ Dimensionals. So happy with how this card turned out, I love it.
