Get well card using Stampin' Up Blossoming Basket

Get Well with a Blossoming Basket

I love the new Blossoming Basket stamp set and co-ordinating Basket Weave Embossing Folder; one of the additional Sale-a-Bration choices you can earn with a £90 order until the end of March 2018. I used the set today to make a sweet get well soon card for a friend.

I took a piece of Whisper White cardstock 3¼” by 3⅛” and stamped the cute basket using Momento Tuxedo Black ink. I used a selection of Stampin’ Blends Pens to colour in the image – Dark Pink Pirouette and Light & Dark Rich Razzelberry for the flowers. Light & Dark Old Olive and Light Smoky Slate for the leaves and Light & Dark Soft Sky for the basket. I stamped the sweet little butterfly from the same set on a scrap of Whisper White cardstock, coloured it in with the Dark Soft Sky and Light Rich Razzelberry Stampin’ Blends before cutting it out with scissors.

I added the stamped image to a panel of Pool Party cardstock using Tombow Liquid Adhesive having rounded the upper right corners of both pieces using the retired Project Life Corner Rounder.

Taking a piece of Whisper White cardstock 5⅞” by 2½” I ran it through the Big Shot using the Basket Weave Embossing Folder. I love the dimension this gives, it is gorgeous. I added the textured panel to the front of a Rich Razzelberry card base. The stamped panel was added to the card front on Stampin’ Dimensionals then I added the tiny butterfly to the basket handle before adding some Basic Rhinestones to the image.

The sentiment from the Apron of Love stamp set was stamped in Rich Razzelberry ink onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and trimmed out with scissors. I added it to the basket using Tombow Liquid Adhesive.

I am really happy with this card, so pretty. I hope you like it.

Tutti-Frutti-Party-Pandas

Tutti-Frutti Pandas for Team Training Swaps

Today I’m sharing the swaps Tutti-Frutti Panda cards I have made for tomorrows Team Training Event organised by my lovely Upline Mikaela Titheridge.

wanted to use the absolutely lovely Tutti-Frutti Cards & Envelopes which are one of the free choices with a £45 order in the 2018 Sale-a-Bration brochure. These are so easy to overlook in amongst the more glamourous stamp sets, dsp and dies but they really are lovely, beautiful colours and so versatile. I wanted the pretty card fronts to be seen so looked for a fairly small image for my cards.

Tutti-Frutti-Party-Pandas

www.crafty-rootes.com-Tutti-Frutti-Pandas-For-Team-Training

I settled on the quirky Party Pandas stamp set which is also a free choice from the 2018 Sale-a-Bration brochure. I stamped the sweet panda with the balloon in the lower left corner of a panel of Whisper White cardstock 4” by 2½”. I used Archival Basic Black ink and found I had better results using a stamp positioner such as a Stamparatus with a really well inked pad. I didn’t bother to ink up the balloon as I planned to cover it with dsp balloons. I added the sentiment from the same set in a co-ordinating Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight, Calypso Coral or Lemon Lime Twist ink.

Tutti-Frutti-Party-Pandas

www.crafty-rootes.com-Tutti-Frutti-Pandas-For-Team-Training

I rounded the upper right corner of the Whisper White cardstock panel using the retired Project life Corner Rounder and added a piece of 3¼” by 1¾” cardstock in either Bermuda Bay, Calypso Coral or Lemon Lime Twist behind the lower right corner and added the whole piece to one of the Tutti-Frutti card bases.

I punched a selection of large and small balloons from the Bubble & Fizz dsp pack, another free 2018 Sale-a-Bration choice with a £45 order, using the Balloon Bouquet Punch. The smaller balloons were added to the card front with Tombow Liquid Adhesive. The larger balloon was added on Stampin’ Dimensionals. Such a cute card and I love that all the items used with the exception of the ink pads were free!!!!

Stampin' Up! Beautiful Day stamp set

Beautiful Day for a Butterfly

Today I’ve been playing with 2 new products – the Beautiful Day Stamp Set from the Spring/Summer 2018 catalogue and the gorgeous Tutti-Frutti Cards and Envelopes which are a free Sale-a-Bration choice with a £45 order.

Butterfly from Beautiful Day stamp set for a Get Well card

www.crafty-rootes.com-Beautiful Day Stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I started by stamping the stunning butterfly image in Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto a Whisper White cardstock panel 4⅞” by 3⅝”. I wanted to create an ombre effect when colouring the butterfly and chose to use Stampin’ Blends to achieve this effect.

Ombre colouring for a Beautiful Day Butterfly

www.crafty-rootes.com-Beautiful Day Stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I started with the Dark Cherry Cobbler and used small feather strokes in each section of the butterfly wings in turn. Next I used the Light Cherry Cobbler Blends Pen and deliberately did not blend the 2 shades together. I repeated the feathering using the Dark Calypso Coral then the Light Calypso Coral Blends Pen. The centre sections I coloured using the Dark and Light Daffodil Blends Pen the same fashion

Gorgeous sparkly Butterfly get well card

I mounted 2 strips of Daffodil Delight cardstock, 4 ¾” by 1⅛” behind the stamped Whisper White piece offset to the top left with the one piece and to the bottom right with the second piece. I really like this offset partial mount, it is really quirky but very effective. The panels were added with Tombow Liquid Adhesive. The whole piece was then added to the front of a Tutti-Frutti card base on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Stampin' Up! Beautiful Day stamp set

www.crafty-rootes.com-Beautiful Day Stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I stamped the sentiment from the Apron of Love stamp set in Calypso Coral ink onto a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock and added a banner end using Paper Snips. I added a tiny scalloped Daffodil Delight cardstock border to the bottom in the sentiment having punched it out using the Decorative Ribbon Border Punch. The sentiment was added to the card front using Tombow. To finish I added some of the Tutti-Frutti Adhesive Backed Sequins and covered the central Daffodil Delight sections in Clear Wink of Stella. Gorgeous!

Beautiful Bouquet for February Classes

Beautiful Bouquet Classes

We have had a fab time over the last week in my February classes playing with the gorgeous Beautiful Bouquet stamp set and the co-ordinating Bouquet Bunch dies. This set contains 21 dies and 37 stamps including some lovely scripted sentiments.

Beautiful Bouquet for February Classes

The first card we made was very simple. We started with a panel of Very Vanilla cardstock 3⅞” by 3⅛” and stamped our chosen sentiment, either from the Beautiful Bouquet stamp set or the Mother’s day sentiment from the Thoughtful Banners stamp set, at the bottom of the panel using Berry Burst ink. Above that we stamped the flower stems in Wild Wasabi ink. Next we added flowers in Calypso Coral ink, So Saffron Ink and Night of Navy ink. We stamped 2 flowers in Berry Burst ink onto scrap Very Vanilla cardstock and die cut these using the Big Shot and the  Bouquet Bunch dies and added them to the stamped layer on Stampin’ Dimensionals. The stamped layer was added to a piece of Berry Burst cardstock after corner rounding the upper left corners with the retired Project Life Corner Rounder using Tombow Liquid Adhesive. Taking a small strip of Night of Navy cardstock, 4⅛” by ¼” and a pair of scissors we cut a banner end and glued the piece to a Thick Very Vanilla Card base with Tombow. The stamped layer was then added to the card front on Stampin’ Dimensionals. To finish off we added some Basic Pearls to the 2 largest flowers.

Beautiful Bouquet for February Classes

For the second card we started with a layer of Very Vanilla cardstock 5½” by 3¾”. We began by stamping the largest of the flowers in Calypso Coral ink on the right side of the panel. We added flowers in So Saffron ink, the Night of Navy ink and Wisteria Wonder ink. The leaves were added in Wild Wasabi ink. I always start with the larger images and use the smaller images to fill in the gaps. Taking a layer of Night of Navy cardstock 5⅝” by 3⅞” and punched out a label using the Pretty Label Punch, I love doing this, no one will ever know there is a piece missing behind the stamped panel. I corner rounded the upper left and lower right corners of the stamped panel and the Night of Navy panel. We added a piece of Calypso Coral Shimmer Ribbon to the panel securing it to the reverse with Sellotape, before adhering the two layers together with Tombow. The panel was then added to a Calypso Coral Card Base. The sentiment was stamped in Night of Navy onto scrap Very Vanilla cardstock and die cut using the Layering Circles dies and added to the punched label. This was added over the ribbon on Stampin’ Dimensionals and Basic Pearls added to a few of the flowers and the label.

Beautiful Bouquet for February Classes

The final card began with a layer of Very Vanilla cardstock 5⅞” by 4⅛” and a Paper Trimmer. We lined the upper left hand corner up with the cutting track and the lower right hand corner roughly 1 – 1½” up the right side and cut. Keeping the upper left hand corner in the cutting track we swung the panel to the right and cut again about 1 – 1½” on the bottom edge. This leaves 2 triangles and a piece that looks like a man’s tie. Setting the triangles to one side we placed the ‘tie’ shaped piece onto the front of a Thick Very Vanilla card base with the thin piece in the upper left corner and the wider piece in the lower left corner and drew a light pencil line down both sides. This defines the area we needed to fill with our stamped images. We started again with the largest images and worked through to the smallest image using Calypso Coral, So Saffron, Berry Burst, Night of Navy, Wild Wasabi and Wisteria Wonder inks  and erased the pencil marks when we had filled the area. We stamped the sentiment in Night of Navy ink on the left hand panel before adding the left and right hand panels using Tombow Liquid Adhesive. We stamped the largest and smallest flowers onto scrap Very Vanilla and die cut them using the Big Shot and the Bouquet Bunch dies. We also die cut leaves from Wild Wasabi cardstock and flowers from So Saffron cardstock. All of these elements were added to the top of the stamped diagonal panel using Tombow or Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Beautiful Bouquet for February Classes

The ladies loved the cards and I loved the colours, so bright and cheerful. Hope you like them.

Cake Soiree by Stampin' Up!

Chocolate Cake Soiree

Today’s card, featuring a spectacular Chocolate Cake made using the Cake Soiree stamp set and Sweet Cake framelit dies, was inspired by a stunning card made by Carolyn Bennie, a fellow demonstrator from Australia. I love Carolyn’s technique for water colouring on dark cardstock and couldn’t wait to give it a go.

I began by stamping the gorgeous ‘floral cake’ image in Versamark Ink onto a scrap piece of Chocolate Chip cardstock. I covered the stamped image with White Embossing Powder and heat set it using my Heat Tool. When the image was dry I added colour using my Watercolor Pencils; starting with the lightest Calypso Coral and working through the Melon Mambo and finishing with touches of Rich Razzelberry to add intensity. I added a little Daffodil Delight to the flower centres as well. I love the soft look of this technique. Following Carolyn’s tutorial I then added Early Espresso shadowing on the cake itself, it does give a subtle impression of dimension. The cake was then die cut using my Big Shot and the Sweet Cake framelit dies.

I die cut the cake base and stand from scrap Whisper White cardstock and added them to the back of the die cut cake with Tombow Liquid Glue.

Cake Soiree close up

www.crafty-rootes.com- Cake Soiree by Stampin’ Up!

I took a Thick Whisper White card base and added a 5½” by 3¾” layer of Chocolate Chip cardstock. This was topped with a panel of Calypso Coral dsp 5⅜” by 3⅝” taken from the Delightful Daisy dsp pack. The cake was added to the lower right corner with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Using Versamark ink I stamped the Happy Birthday from the same stamp set, having masked off the rest of the sentiment with a post it note onto a scrap of Chocolate Chip cardstock. I added White Embossing Powder and set it with my Heat Tool before trimming it out with scissors and adding it to the card front on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Picnic With You card designed by Mo Rootes

Stamp ‘N Hop for a Spring Picnic With You

Hello and welcome to the Stamp ‘N Hop blog hop! My name is Maureen but most people, other than my Mother call me Mo and I live just outside Cambridge in the UK.  The theme of this month’s hop is a favourite item from the Occasions catalogue which is available until 31 May 2018. Decisions, decisions what to choose, the new catalogue is packed with fab things……..hmm………in the end I chose the Picnic For You stamp set and co-ordinating Picnic Basket Builder dies. I am ssoooo… ready for Spring and I love a picnic, so a perfect choice.

Stamp 'N Hop blog hop by Mo RootesPicnic With You Card – Method and Supplies

I started by stamping the basket from the Picnic With You stamp set in Soft Suede ink onto Whisper White cardstock. I stamped the loaves in 1st and 2nd generation Soft Suede ink then the outline cupcakes using the same ink. The icing for the cupcakes was added in Berry Burst ink. The cute little bottle was stamped in Night of Navy ink. I stamped the apples in Pear Pizzazz ink and added a touch of Berry Burst ink to one side with a Sponge Dauber. The checked cloth was stamped in Berry Burst ink and everything was then die cut using the Picnic Basket Builder dies and the Big Shot.

Picnic With You card designed by Mo Rootes

Taking a piece of the Color Theory dsp 5¼” by 3½” I added ½ a Delicate Doily towards the bottom and stuck all the die cut elements using Tombow Liquid Adhesive. The basket was added on top on Stampin’ Dimensionals and the checked cloth glued on with Tombow. The basket looked lovely and full.

Picnic With You card designed by Mo Rootes

I added a panel of Soft Suede cardstock 5” by 2¼” behind the upper left hand corner of the dsp before adding the whole piece to a Thick Whisper White card base. The sentiment was stamped in Old Olive ink onto scrap Whisper White cardstock and trimmed out with Scissors. I felt the sentiment needed a pop of colour so added a small piece of Berry Burst cardstock punched with the Decorative Ribbon Border Punch. Perfect………looks good enough to eat.

Fun card with bottles

Row of Bottles Bubble Over

I seem to have a bit of a theme going on this week as today’s project started with the negative image left after die cutting a row of Bottles using the Bottles and Bubbles dies. It was the perfect size to fit a card front and I couldn’t resist adding some fun colours.

Quirky bottles of pop for a card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beautiful Bouquet stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I had planned to raise the Chocolate Chip die cut layer on Stampin’ Dimensionals but the strips between the bottles were just too narrow; I ended up gluing it to the Thick Whisper White card base with Tombow Liquid Adhesive. I then used Post It Notes to mask off each bottle in turn and added colour to the negative image using Sponge Daubers. I used Berry Burst ink, Lemon Lime Twist ink, Bermuda Bay ink, Calypso Coral ink and Pacific Point ink keeping the colour darkest at the bottom of each bottle. I then stamped the bubble image on each bottle in the co-ordinating ink colour.

Fun card with bottles

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beautiful Bouquet stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

The bottle tops were die cut from a scrap of Silver Foil and added to the top of each bottle with Tombow Liquid Adhesive. I added the sentiment from the Party Pandas stamp set, stamped in Chocolate Chip ink onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock in the bottom left hand corner – to cover a small miss stamp – ssshhh don’t tell………no–one will ever know!!

Virant floral card

Beautiful Bouquet Spray for an anniversary

We are using the gorgeous Beautiful Bouquet for classes this month and I have been using the set over the last few days to make some samples for my inspiration table. I love the versatility of the set, it is so easy to make a clean and simple card or you can go mad with layering for a totally different look. I also love the many sentiments this set comes with; the font is so dainty, just beautiful.

Gorgeous anniversay card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beautiful Bouquet stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I wanted to make a card featuring a floral spray rather than a bouquet and with a very simple colour palette. My starting point was the 2 circles which were left over from another project, one in Champagne Foil and the other from the Wood Textures dsp!

Virant floral card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beautiful Bouquet stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I inked up the flower stamp with Night of Navy ink and stamped it 4 times onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock without re-inking. I love that we can get 3 or 4 different shades of the same colour from an ink pad. I did the same thing with Bermuda Bay ink and then die cut all of the flowers using the co-ordinating Beautiful Bunch dies. I love Lemon Lime Twist with both Bermuda Bay and Night of Navy and chose to die cut the leaves from Lemon Lime Twist cardstock. I added a ½” strip of Night of Navy cardstock and a ⅜” strip of Lemon Lime Twist cardstock to ground the circles which I had adhered slightly off centre.

Anniversary card with blue flowers

www.crafty-rootes.com – Beautiful Bouquet stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I stamped the sentiment in Night of Navy ink onto a Thick Whisper White cardstock and added the leaves and flowers using a combination of Tombow Liquid Adhesive and Stampin’ Dimensionals.  I wanted to add a little more shimmer to the card but could find something I liked; then I spotted some Champagne Foil scraps and used these to punch out small ⅛” and ¼” circles using the Hand Held Circle punches. I glued these down with Tombow.

Flowers For A Picnic

I have been playing today with the fantastic new Picnic for You stamp set. This is going to be such a versatile set and I have plans to use it for my Adult Education event in March; so watch this space……

For today’s’ card I focused on the leafy sprig and flower stamps rather than the more obvious picnic basket and food stamps. I am saving these for another day.

I started with a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock 5⅞” by 2” and stamped the leafy sprig image in Garden Green ink randomly all over it. I added the larger flower image in Flirty Flamingo ink and the smaller flower image in Peakaboo Peach ink, 1st and 2nd generation to add a little more texture.

Dainty flowers on a card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Picnic With You by Stampin’ Up!

I adhered a 5⅞” by ⅜” strip of Flirty Flamingo cardstock to the left hand side of the Very Vanilla panel using Tombow Liquid Adhesive and a strip of Peakaboo Peach cardstock the same size to the right hand side leaving a smaller border. I wasn’t happy with the panel as it didn’t stand out enough. I added a ¼” strip of Garden Green cardstock behind the Peakaboo Peach piece which pulled the panel together nicely.

I added a 5⅞” piece of Lace Trim to the right hand side for some added texture. I stamped the sentiment from the Picnic With You stamp set in Garden Green ink onto a scrap of Very Vanilla cardstock and die cut it using the Layering Ovals dies and added it to a Flirty Flamingo scalloped oval cut from the same set.

Sweet delicate floral card

I added the stamped panel to a Thick Very Vanilla card base using Stampin’ Dimensionals and added the sentiment to the right side. I thought about adding some Basic Pearls but decided against it as I really like the clean lines of the card. Let me know what you think!
