Stamp-a-Stack event featuring Stampin' Up product

Christmas themed Stamp-a-Stacks

Thank you to the lovely ladies who joined me for my Stamp-a-Stack events in September and October. We had a great time and made so many lovely cards.

All the projects were Christmas themed, in my opinion you can never start too early….. There were 5 tables with 2 cards designs on each table, the ladies made 2 of each card giving them a total of 20 cards.

On arrival each lady was given a bag containing a pack of Merry Little Christmas dsp, 20 card bases in co-ordinating colours – Whisper White, Old Olive and Real Red, a spool of ⅛” Real Red ribbon, 20 Whisper White Envelopes and packets of pre-cut card stock layers to make each card. I prepped the packs for the second Stamp-a-Stack when I was in the grip of a migraine and managed to miss-label some of the packs which caused some hilarity. Luckily I always bring spare cardstock and was able to rectify the mix up with no problems.

As always the day whizzed by so quickly. Here is a picture of some of the ladies hard at work and of some of the projects they made.

Hearts come Home in modern, quirky colours

Hearts Come Home goes modern

Today I have been using the gorgeous Hearts Come Home stamp set with some very non-traditional colours for a quirky modern look.

Christmas card featuring Hearst Come Home stamp set

www.crafty-rootes.com – Hearts Come Home stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I began by running a 5½” by 3¾” piece of Rose Red cardstock through the Big Shot with the lacy edgelit die. I love this die it gives such a cool effect. I then wrapped a length of Emerald Envy ⅛” ribbon around the panel, securing it to the back with Sellotape. I glued the whole panel to a Crumb Cake card base and stamped the sentiment from the Merry Patterns stamp set in Emerald Envy ink in the lower right hand corner.

I took a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock and stamped the houses in Emerald Envy, Perfect Plum and Rose Red ink and added a tree in the Emerald Envy. I die cut the stamped houses using an oval from the Stitched Shapes framelits and added it with Tombow Liquid Adhesive to a scalloped oval die cut from Perfect Plum cardstock using the Layering Ovals framelits.

Using Stampin’ Dimensionals I centred the oval over the ribbon on the card front and added a bow made from the same Emerald Envy ⅛” ribbon. I really like the card and I think the colour combo works really well. What do you think?

Festive jolly Santa jumper card

Christmas Sweaters featuring a Jolly Santa

I saw a fantastic video on Youtube recently by Brandy Cox, a fab American demonstrator, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOn6qnSxLpg showing some cards she had made using the quirky Christmas Sweaters stamp set. I loved them all but my favourite was the Santa jumper. Here is my take on it.

Seasonal sweater featuring Santa

www.crafty-rootes.com – Christmas Sweater by Stampin’ Up!

I stamped the jumper using Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock and die cut it out using the Stitched Shapes framelits and the Big Shot. I coloured the jumper in using an Old Olive marker, the hat with the Real Red Marker, Santa’s face with the Pink Pirouette Marker, Santa’s glasses with the Sahara Sand Marker and the ribbed area around the neck, cuffs and bottom of the jumper with the Soft Sky Marker.

I followed Brandy’s tip and covered the beard, moustache, eyebrows, rim of the hat and the pompom in Tombow Liquid Adhesive and spread it around using a cotton bud taking care to stay away from the stamped black edge. I then covered the image with Dazzling Diamonds Glitter and it looked fabulous, so sparkly. I added this piece to a scalloped square which had been die cut using the Layering Squares dies and Old Olive cardstock.

I took a layer of Real Red cardstock and ran it through the Big Shot with the Winter Wonder embossing folder on the right hand side of the panel. I really love the effect this gives. I stamped the sentiment from the Merry Patterns stamp set in Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and punched it out using the Everyday Label punch. I punched again using a scrap of Old Olive cardstock and mounted the stamped piece on top and slightly offset so that the colour peeked out the bottom.

I added the sentiment to the lower left hand corner of the Real Red panel using Tombow Liquid Adhesive and added the Santa sweater image over the top using Stampin Dimensionals. The whole panel was then added to a Thick Whisper White card base using Tombow.

I love how sparkly and festive this card is, love it. Thanks for the inspiration Brandy.

Deer image from the Merry Patterns stamps et

Merry Patterns – a Deer in a Jumper

I have been playing today with the gorgeous Merry Patterns stamp set which has this gorgeous image with a deer in a jumper……..I kid you not! This is a set you cannot buy; it can only be earned with a £250 order. Lucky me, I had a large order going in for my September Stamp-a-Stack and was able to get this set……..whoo hoo.

Deer in a jumper

I love the deer image and decided to use my markers to colour it in so that I could show off the lovely patterns on the jumper. I chose to use Whisper White cardstock and used the Chocolate Chip Marker for the head, antlers, legs and tail of the deer and Real Red Marker and Tranquil Tide Marker for the jumper.

I was really happy with how the deer looked. I cut the deer out using the Layering Circle Dies and backed the circle with a slightly larger scalloped circle, cut from Real Red cardstock and a die from the same set.

I took a layer of Whisper White cardstock 5⅜” by 3⅝” and glued half of a gorgeous silver Foiled Snowflake to it. You get 24 of these gorgeous snowflakes per pack, 12 in silver and 12 in gold.  I wrapped a piece of ⅛” Silver Metallic Ribbon to hide the top edge of the cut snowflake, adhering the ribbon to the back of the Whisper White panel with Sellotape. I added the whole piece to the card front using Tombow Liquid Adhesive. The stamped deer topper was then added over the snowflake and ribbon on Stampin Dimensionals.

The sentiment was stamped below using Real Red ink. I used a Mini Glue Dot to add a bow made from the ⅛” Silver Metallic Ribbon to add a little shine. Hope you like today’s project.

This stamp set really is lovely and I am looking forward to using the candle image next so look out for that post.

Quirky Sweater Christmas card

Quirky Christmas Sweaters for a fun winter/holiday card

Use the quirky Christmas Sweaters stamp set to make fun, modern looking Christmas cards.

Quirky, modern Christmas card

www.crafty-rootes.com – Christmas Sweaters by Stampin’ Up

For today’s project I stamped one of the sweaters from the Christmas Sweater stamp set onto Whisper White cardstock using Momento Tuxedo Black ink. I carefully coloured alternate stripes of the sweater using the brush end of the Berry Burst Marker. After a bit of trial and error I found it best to brush the colour on in one direction rather than going backwards and forwards, you get a less streaky finish.

The image was then die cut using the Big Shot and the largest circle from the Stitched Shapes framelit dies. I added the stitched circle using Tombow Liquid Adhesive to a large scallop circle which was die cut from Lemon Lime Twist cardstock using the Layering Circle framelit dies.

I took a panel of Whisper White cardstock 5⅞” by 3⅝” and wrapped a length of ½” Finely Woven Berry Burst Ribbon about a third of the way down the panel, adhering it to the back with sellotape and added the circle topper piece over the top using Stampin’ Dimensionals. The sentiment was then stamped below the sweater using Lemon Lime Twist ink. The whole panel was then added to a Thick Whisper White card base using Tombow Liquid Adhesive.

I absolutely love the Lemon Lime Twist/Berry Burst colour combination. Hope you like this project.
