A gorgeous Christmas card featuring a cute robin, made using the Happy Holly-Days and stamp set

Christmas Robin

My Mum loves a Christmas Robin and I made this card for her. Sadly she has dementia and no longer recognises us when we visit but I hope this cheerful robin will bring a smile to her face.

Colours used in this project are:

To recreate the Christmas Robin card, you will need:

Old Olive card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛”
Soft Suede card – 4⅝” by 3⅛”
Fluid 100 watercolor card – 4½” by 3”
Poppy Parade card – 5⅞” by 2⅛”
Very Vanilla card – 5½” by 3¾”
Very Vanilla scrap

We Brits. are so happy to have a Robin stamp, it is such an iconic bird here is the UK and especially so at Christmas. I mounted the lovely robin image onto one of the Stamparatus plates, inked it up with Sahara Sand ink and stamped in onto the small panel of Fluid 100 watercolor card. Because this card has a textured surface, I like to use the Stamparatus in case I need to stamp the image a second time.

www.crafty-rootes.co.uk – A pretty traditional robin themed Christmas card made using the Happy Holly-Days stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I used the following colours to watercolor the robin – Sahara Sand, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Gray Granite, Old Olive & Poppy Parade. I added a little of each colour to an acrylic block and used a Water Painter to pick up the ink and apply it to the bird. Doing it this was means that I can blend inks together to achieve different shades of colour.

The eye of the bird was outlined using a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Maker and I used a Chalk Marker to add the highlight to the eye.I flagged both ends of the Poppy Parade strip and added it to the Old Olive card base with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.

Using the Stamparatus again, I stamped the sentiment from the Christmas to Remember stamp set in Poppy Parade ink. I repeated the inking and stamping to get a darker colour. The stamped panel was then added to the Soft Suede layer with the same liquid glue. The topper was then added to the card front on Dimensionals.

I tied a large bow using the Gold Elegant Trim and added it to the card front using a Dimensional. The holly was stamped in Old Olive ink and coloured using Old Olive and Poppy Parade ink and my Water Painters. The coloured image was then fussy cut using scissors and added over the bow using Mini Dimensionals.

A good luck chick card to celebrate a retirement and made using Stampin' Up! products

Good Luck Chick

Today I am sharing a jolly good luck chick card made to celebrate a friends’ retirement at the end of August. Like me she wok as a nurse for over 35 years at Royal Papworth Hospital, a specialist heart and lung hospital here in the UK. I am so looking forward to celebrating with her with a visit to our favourite café for a special full English breakfast.

Colours used in this project are:

To recreate the good luck chick card, you will need:

Poppy Parade card base – 8¼” by 5⅞” scored at 4⅛” – rounded upper left corner
Soft Suede card – 5¾” by 3⅞” – rounded upper left corner
Basic White card – 5⅝” by 3¾” – rounded upper left corner
Basic White card – 5½” by 3¾” – rounded upper left corner
Basic White ¼” strip

I started by stamping the 1st dancing chicken on the right-hand side of the slightly longer Basic White panel. I stamped the same image onto three Post It Notes and cut around the images with Scissors and used these to provide masks.

One of the masks was placed over the stamped chicken and another chicken was stamped to the left. The second mask was then placed over the top of this chicken and another bird stamped to the left.

The last mask was then added to the third chicken and the chicken with a balloon was stamped so that she appeared to be floating out of the gang. The masks were then removed.

I used the following Blends Marker Pens to colour in the chicks and the balloon – Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Cinnamon Cider, Gray Granite, Poppy Parade, Daffodil Delight & Bronze

The stamped panel was layered onto the Soft Suede panel using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive. The whole piece was then added to the Poppy Parade card base on Dimensionals.

The sentiment, from the Welcoming Woods stamp set, was stamped in Poppy Parade ink onto the strip of Basic White and the strip was cut down and flagged with Scissors. I added a trio of Red Rhinestones to finish the card.
